Then David said to the lad who was telling him, "Where are you from?" And he said, I am the son of the stranger Amalekite.

Then David said to him, "How are you not afraid to lift up your hand to kill the Lord's anointed?"

Then David called one of the youths and said to him, "Come and kill him."

And he killed him, and he died. And David said to him, Thy blood is on thy head: for thy mouth bore witness against thee, when thou said, I have slain the anointed of the Lord.

And David wept over Saul and his son Jonathan with this lamentation,

And he commanded that the children of Judah be taught the bow, as it is written in the book of the Righteous One, and said,

Thy beauty, O Israel, is smitten in thy heights! How the strong have fallen!

Do not tell in Gath, do not proclaim in the streets of Ascalon, lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised rejoice.

The mountains of Gilboa! let neither dew nor rain come upon you, and let there be no fields of fruit upon you, for there the shield of the mighty, the shield of Saul, is broken, though it be anointed with oil.

Without the blood of the wounded, without the fat of the mighty, Jonathan's bow did not return, and Saul's sword did not return in vain.

Saul and Jonathan, who were amiable and concordant in their lives, were not separated in their deaths. They were faster than eagles, stronger than lions.

Daughters of Israel! weep for Saul, who clothed you in a scarlet robe with ornaments, and brought your golden garments to your garments.

How the mighty have fallen in battle! Jonathan is slain on thy heights.

I grieve for you, my brother Jonathan; you were very dear to me; Your love was for me higher than the love of a woman.
