The Gospel of John

Chapter 10

1. Verily, verily, I say to you, whoever does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs over the outside, is a thief and a robber;

2. And he who enters by the door is a shepherd to the sheep.

3. To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep obey his voice, and he calls his sheep by name and brings them out.

4. And when he brings out his sheep, he goes before them; but the sheep follow him, because they know his voice.

5. But they do not follow a stranger, but flee from him, because they do not know the voice of another.

6. Jesus spoke this parable to them; but they did not understand what he was saying to them.

7. So again Jesus said to them, "Verily, truly, I say to you, that I am the door of the sheep."

8. All of them, however many have come before Me, are thieves and robbers; but the sheep did not listen to them.

9. I am the door: whoever enters in by Me will be saved, and will go in and go out, and will find pasture.

10. A thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy. I came that they might have life, and have it more abundantly.

11. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

12. But a hireling, not a shepherd, to whom the sheep are not his own, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep, and flees; and the wolf plunders the sheep, and scatters them.

13. But the hireling flees because he is a hireling, and does not care for the sheep.

14. I am the good shepherd; and I know mine, and mine know me.

15. As the Father knows Me, so I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.

16. I have other sheep that are not of this fold, and these I must bring, and they will hear my voice, and there will be one flock and one Shepherd.

17. Therefore the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to receive it again.

18. No one takes it away from me, but I give it myself. I have the power to give it up, and I have the power to receive it again. This commandment I have received from My Father.

19. From these words again there arose strife among the Jews.

20. Many of them said, "He is possessed by a demon and is mad; Why do you listen to Him?
