Acts of the Holy Apostles

4. And he looked at him and was afraid, and said, "What, Lord? The angel answered him, "Thy prayers and thy alms have come as a remembrance before God."

5. So send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, who is called Peter.

6. He is staying with a certain Simon the tanner, whose house is by the sea; He will tell you the words by which you and all your household will be saved.

7. When the angel who had spoken to Cornelius had departed, he called two of his servants and a pious soldier from among those who were with him

8. and when he had told them all things, he sent them to Joppa.

9. The next day, as they walked and approached the city, Peter went up to the top of the house to pray about the sixth hour.

10. And he felt hungry and wanted to eat. While they were being prepared, he fell into a frenzy

11. And he sees the heaven opened, and a vessel descending to it, like a great cloth, tied at the four corners and lowered to the earth;

12. In it were all four-footed creatures of the earth, beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air.

13. And a voice came to him, "Get up, Peter, kill and eat."

14. But Peter said, "No, Lord, I have never eaten anything filthy or unclean."

15. Then another time a voice came to him, "What God has cleansed, do not consider unclean."

16. This happened three times; And the vessel went up to heaven again.

17. And when Peter was perplexed in himself what the vision he had seen would mean, behold, the men sent by Cornelius, having inquired about Simon's house, stopped at the gate,

18. and they cried out, and asked, "Is Simon, who is called Peter, here?"

19. While Peter was meditating on the vision, the Spirit said to him, "Behold, three men are looking for you;

20. Get up, get down, and go with them, without the slightest doubt; for I have sent them.

21. Peter went down to the people sent to him from Cornelius and said, "I am the one you are looking for; What business did you come for?

22. And they said, "Cornelius the centurion, a virtuous man who fears God, and who is approved by all the people of Judah, has received a command from the holy angel to call you into his house and to listen to your words.

23. Then Peter invited them and entertained them. And the next day he arose and went with them, and some of the brethren of Joppa went with him.

24. The next day they came to Caesarea. Cornelius was waiting for them, having summoned his relatives and close friends.
