Acts of the Holy Apostles

22. and the people cried out, "This is the voice of God, not of man."

23. But suddenly an angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give glory to God; and he was eaten up by worms, and died.

24. But the word of God grew and spread.

25. And Barnabas and Saul, having fulfilled their commission, returned from Jerusalem (to Antioch), taking with them also John, who was called Mark.

Chapter 13

1. In Antioch, in the church there, there were certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas, and Simeon, who is called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manael, the co-pupil of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

2. As they served the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart Barnabas and Saul for me to do the work to which I have called them."

3. Then they fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, and sent them away.

4. These, having been sent by the Holy Spirit, came to Seleucia, and from there sailed to Cyprus;

5. and when they were in Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews; and they also had John with them for service.

6. And when they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Bar-Jesus,

7. who was with the proconsul Sergius Paulus, a wise man. This one, having called Barnabas and Saul, desired to hear the word of God.

8. And Elymas the sorcerer (for that is the meaning of his name) opposed them, trying to turn the proconsul away from the faith.

9. But Saul, who is also Paul, being filled with the Holy Spirit and fixing his eyes on him,

10. He said: O thou full of all deceit and all wickedness, son of the devil, enemy of all righteousness! Will you cease to turn away from the straight paths of the Lord?

11. And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you: you will be blind and will not see the sun until the time comes. And suddenly darkness and darkness fell upon him, and he turned hither and thither, looking for a guide.

12. Then the proconsul, seeing what had happened, believed, marveling at the teaching of the Lord.

13. After sailing from Paphos, Paul and those who were with him arrived at Perga, in Pamphylia. But John, having separated himself from them, returned to Jerusalem.

14. And they, passing from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia, and having entered the synagogue on the Sabbath day, they sat down.

15. After reading the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent word to them, "Men, brethren! If you have a word of instruction to the people, speak.

16. Paul stood up and made a sign with his hand, and said, "Men of Israel and God-fearers! Listen to me.
