And Jacob dwelt in the land of his father's sojourn, in the land of Canaan.

This is the life of James. And Joseph, seventeen years old, tended his cattle with his brethren as a lad, and with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah his father's wives. And Joseph brought evil rumors about them to their father.

And Israel loved Joseph more than all their sons, because he was the son of his old age, and made him a garment of many colors.

And his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren; and they hated him, and could not speak to him in a friendly manner.

And Joseph saw a dream, and told it to his brethren, and they hated him all the more.

And he said unto them, Hear the dream which I have had, saying,

Behold, we bind sheaves in the midst of the field; And behold, my sheaf arose and stood upright; And behold, your sheaves stood round and bowed down to my sheaf.

And his brethren said unto him, Wilt thou reign over us? Will you possess us? And they hated him all the more because of his dreams and because of his words.

And he had another dream, and told it to his brethren, saying, 'Behold, I have had another dream: behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars worship me.'

And he told his father and his brethren; And his father rebuked him, and said to him, What is this dream which thou hast seen? Shall I, and thy mother, and thy brethren, come to worship thee unto the ground?

And his brethren were vexed with him, and his father took notice of the word.

And his brethren went to feed their father's cattle in Shechem.

And Israel said to Joseph, 'Do not your brethren feed in Shechem?' Go, I'll send you to them. And he answered him, Here I am.

[Israel] said to him, 'Go and see if your brothers are well, and if the cattle are whole, and bring me an answer.' And he sent him out of the valley of Hebron; and he came to Shechem.
