7 If I walk in the midst of adversity, Thou shalt revive me, Thou shalt stretch out Thy hand against the fury of my enemies, and Thy right hand shall save me.

8 The Lord will do it for me! Thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever: forsake not the work of Thy hands.

Psalm 138

To the head of the choir. Psalm of David.

1 Lord! You have tested me and you know.

2 Thou knowest when I sit down and when I rise; Thou knowest my thoughts from afar.

3 Whether I walk or rest, you surround me, and all my ways are known to you.

4 There is not yet a word in my tongue, for thou, O Lord, knowest it perfectly.

5 Behind and in front Thou hast encompassed me, and hast laid Thy hand upon me.

6 Marvellous unto me is [Thy knowledge], which is exalted, I cannot comprehend it.

7 Whither shall I go from thy Spirit, and whither shall I flee from thy presence?

8 If I ascend into heaven, Thou art there; if I descend into hell, and there Thou art there.

9 Shall I take the wings of the dawn, and dwell on the edge of the sea,

10 and there thy hand shall lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

11 Shall I say, "Perhaps darkness shall hide me, and light shall be made round about me by night";

12 but neither shall darkness obscure from thee, nor shall the night be as bright as the day, as darkness and light.

13 For thou hast made my inward parts, and hast knitted me in my mother's womb.

14 I praise thee, because I am wonderfully made. Wondrous are Thy works, and my soul is fully aware of it.

15 My bones were not hidden from thee, when I was built in secret, I was formed in the depths of the womb.

16 Thy eyes have seen my embryo; in Thy book are written all the days appointed for me, when none of them had yet been.

17 How exalted are thy thoughts unto me, O God, and how great is their number!
