Chapter 3

On my bed by night I sought him whom my soul loves, I sought him, and did not find him.

And I will arise, and will go through the city, through the streets and the squares, and will seek him whom my soul loves; I was looking for him and did not find him.

And the guards met me, going round the city, saying, 'Have you not seen him whom my soul loves?'

But no sooner had I departed from them, than I found him whom my soul loves, and I took hold of him, and did not let him go, until I brought him into my mother's house, and into the inner chambers of my parent.

I adjure you, daughters of Jerusalem, with chamois or deer of the field: do not wake or disturb your beloved, as long as she pleases.

Who is this, ascending from the wilderness as columns of smoke, smoking with myrrh and incense, with all kinds of powders of myrrh?

This is his bed, Solomon's: sixty mighty men round about him, of the mighty of Israel.

They all hold a sword, and are skilled in battle; every one has a sword at his hip for the fear of the night.

King Solomon made himself a bed of the wood of Lebanon;

His pillars he made of silver, his elbows of gold, and his seat of purple cloth. its interior is adorned with love by the daughters of Jerusalem.

Go and see, O daughters of Zion, king Solomon wearing the crown with which his mother crowned him on the day of his marriage, a day of joy to his heart.
