Wherefore thou hast rebuked them that err little by little, and reminding them wherein they have sinned, thou hast admonished them, that they may turn away from evil, and believe in thee, O Lord.

Thus abhorring the ancient inhabitants of thy holy land,

who did hateful works of sorcery and ungodly sacrifices,

And merciless murderers of children, and at sacrificial banquets devouring the entrails of human flesh and blood in secret assemblies,

And the parents who slew helpless souls, Thou wouldst destroy them by the hands of our fathers,

that the earth, which is most precious with Thee, may receive a worthy population of the children of God.

But thou hast spared them also, as men, having sent hornets to be the forerunners of thy army, that they might destroy them little by little.

Though it was not impossible for Thee by war to subdue the wicked to the righteous, or to destroy them with fearful beasts, or with a terrible word at once;

but thou didst chastise them little by little, and gave place to repentance, knowing nevertheless that their seed was worthless, and their wickedness was innate, and their mind would never change.

For their seed was cursed from the beginning, and it was not for fear of any one that Thou didst allow their sins to go unpunished.

For who will say, 'What have you done?' - or who will resist Thy judgment? and who shall accuse thee of the destruction of the nations which thou hast made? Or what defender will come to Thee with intercession for unrighteous people?

For there is no God besides you, who has care for all, to prove to you that you have judged unjustly.

Neither king nor ruler is able to come to thee before thy eyes for those whom thou hast destroyed.

Being righteous, you govern all things righteously, considering it not in your power to condemn him who does not deserve punishment.
