23 The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gefer, and Mash.

24 Arphaxad begat Shelah, and Shelah begat Eber.

25 And Eber had two sons; the name of one is Peleg, because in his days the land is divided; his brother's name was Joktan.

26 Joktan begat Almodad, Shaleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerach,

27 Gadoram, Uzala, Diklu,

28 Ovals, Abimailah, Shebu,

29 Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these are the sons of Joktan.

30 Their settlements were from Mesha to Sephar, the mountain of the east.

31 These are the sons of Shem after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, in their nations.

32 These are the families of the sons of Noah, according to their genealogy, in their nations. From them the nations spread on the earth after the flood.

Chapter 11

1 In all the earth there was one language and one dialect.

2 And when they came from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and dwelt there.

3 And they said to one another, Let us make bricks, and burn them with fire. And they made bricks instead of stones, and pitch of earth instead of lime.

4 And they said, Let us build ourselves a city and a tower, the height of which shall reach to heaven, and let us make a name for ourselves, before we are scattered over the face of all the earth.

5 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men were building.

6 And the Lord said, Behold, there is one people, and they all have one language; and this is what they have begun to do, and they will not depart from what they have planned to do;

7 And let us go down, and there confuse their language, that the one may not understand the speech of the other.

8 And the Lord scattered them from thence into all the earth; and they ceased to build the city [and the tower].

9 Wherefore it was given a name, Babylon, for there the LORD confused the language of all the earth, and from thence the LORD scattered them over all the earth.

10 This is the genealogy of Shem: Shem was a hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad, two years after the flood;
