20 And straightway they left their nets, and followed him.

21 From thence as he went on, he saw two other brothers, James Zebedee and John his brother, in a boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them.

22 And straightway they left the boat and their father, and followed him.

23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every infirmity among the people.

24 And a rumour of him went out throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all the infirm, afflicted with various diseases and fits, and the possessed by demons, and lunatics, and the paralytic, and He healed them.

25 And a great multitude of people followed him from Galilee, and from the Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.

Chapter 5

1 And when he saw the multitude, he went up into the mountain; and when he sat down, his disciples came to him.

2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.

5 Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

6 Blessed are they that hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.

7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God.

10 Blessed are they that are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are you, when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you unrighteously for my sake.

12 Rejoice and be glad, for great is your reward in heaven: so they persecuted also the prophets who were before you.

13 You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its savor, how wilt thou make it salty? It is no longer good for anything, except to throw it out to be trampled on by people.

14 You are the light of the world. A city that stands on the top of a mountain cannot be hidden.
