36 Thou shalt not swear by thy head, for thou canst not make a single hair white or black.

37 But let your word be yes, yes; No, no; and what is more than this is from the evil one.

38 You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.'

39 But I say unto you, Resist not evil. But whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn unto him the other also;

40 And whosoever will sue thee, and take away thy shirt, thou shalt give him also thy outer garment.

41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go one way with him, go with him two.

42 To him that asketh thee, give, And from him that desireth to borrow from thee, turn not away.

43 Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thy enemy.

44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that despitefully use you, and persecute you.

45 That ye may be sons of your Father which is in heaven, for he commandeth his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous.

46 For if you love those who love you, what reward will you have? Do not the publicans do the same?

47 And if you greet only your brethren, what special thing do you do? Do not the Gentiles do the same?

48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Chapter 6

1 Take heed that you do not give your alms before men, that they may see you: otherwise you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

2 Therefore, when you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that people may glorify them. Verily I say unto you, they have already received their reward.

3 But with you, when you give alms, let not your left hand know what your right hand does;

4 That thy alms may be in secret; and thy Father, who seeth in secret, will reward thee openly.

5 And when thou prayest, do not be like the hypocrites, who love in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, to stop and pray, that they may appear before the people. Verily I say unto you, they have already received their reward.

6 But thou, when thou prayest, go into thy chamber, and shut thy door, and pray unto thy Father, who is in secret; and thy Father, who seeth in secret, will reward thee openly.

7 And when ye pray, speak not unnecessarily, as the heathen do, for they think that in their many words they shall be heard.
