18 And the Lord God said, It is not good for the man to be alone; let us make him a helper corresponding to him.

19 And the Lord God formed out of the earth all the beasts of the field, and all the fowls of the air, and brought them unto man, that he might see what he should call them, and that whatever man should call every living creature, that would be its name.

20 And the man called the names of all the cattle, and of the fowls of the air, and of every beast of the field; but for man there was no helper like him.

21 And the Lord God put the man into a deep sleep; and when he had fallen asleep, he took one of his ribs, and covered the place with flesh.

22 And the Lord God made a woman out of the rib that was taken from the man, and brought her to the man.

23 And the man said, Behold, this is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, because she was taken from her husband.

24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and they shall be one flesh.

25 And they were both naked, Adam and his wife, and they were not ashamed.

Chapter 3

1 The serpent was more cunning than all the beasts of the field that the Lord God had made. And the serpent said to the woman, Did God really say, Ye shall not eat of any tree in the garden?

2 And the woman said to the serpent, 'We may eat of the fruit of the trees,

3 Only the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, said God, you shall not eat of it or touch it, lest you die.

4 And the serpent said to the woman, 'No, you will not die;

5 but God knows that in the day that you eat of them, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like gods, knowing good and evil.
