Chapter 22

1 Then Joshua called the tribe of Reuben, and of Gad, and half of the tribe of Manasseh, and said to them,

2 And ye have done all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, and obeyed my words in all that I commanded you.

3 Ye have not forsaken your brethren many days until this day, but have done what ought to be done by the command of the Lord your God,

4 Now now the LORD your God has given rest to your brethren, as he has spoken to them; Return, therefore, and go to your tents, to the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of the Lord gave you, beyond the Jordan.

5 Only be careful to keep the commandments and the law which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you: to love the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to keep his commandments, to cleave to him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

6 Then Jesus blessed them and sent them away, and they went to their tents.

7 To one half of the tribe of Manasseh Moses gave an inheritance in Bashan, and to the other half of it Joshua gave an inheritance with his brethren on this side of the Jordan to the west. And when Jesus sent them out into their tents, and blessed them,

8 Then he said to them, 'With great riches you return to your tents, with a great multitude of cattle, with silver, with gold, with brass, and with iron, and with a great multitude of garments; Divide the spoils of your enemies with your brethren.

9 And the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half of the tribe of Manasseh went back from the children of Israel from Sheloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go to the land of Gilead, to the land of their possession, which they had received for possession according to the command of the Lord given through Moses.

10 And when they came to the region of the Jordan, which is in the land of Canaan, the sons of Reuben, and the sons of Gad, and the half of the tribe of Manasseh, they built there by the Jordan an altar, an altar great in appearance.

11 And the children of Israel heard that they were saying, Behold, the sons of Reuben, and the sons of Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh, have built an altar in the land of Canaan, in the region of the Jordan, opposite the children of Israel.

12 And when the children of Israel heard this, all the congregation of the children of Israel was gathered together in Shiloh, to go to war against them.

13 And the children of Israel first sent to the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half of the tribe of Manasseh in the land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest,
