Text of the Lectionary in the Synodal translation

The Gospel of Luke, conceived 89

The Lord said this parable: Two men went into the temple to pray: one was a Pharisee, and the other was a publican. The Pharisee, standing up, prayed within himself thus: God! I thank Thee that I am not like other people, robbers, offenders, adulterers, or like this publican: I fast twice a week, I give a tenth of all that I acquire. The publican, standing at a distance, did not even dare to raise his eyes to heaven; but, beating his breast, he said: God! Be merciful to me, a sinner! I say unto you, that this one went into his house justified more than that one: for whosoever exalteth himself shall be humbled, and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

Luke 18:10-14

Sunday 33, of the Publican and the Pharisee.

The Gospel of Luke, conceived 90

In those days they brought infants to Jesus to touch them; But Jesus called them and said, "Suffer the little children to come to me, and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of God." Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a child will not enter into it. Those who heard this said, "Who then can be saved?" But He said, "What is impossible for men is possible with God." And Peter said, Behold, we have left all things, and have followed thee. And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, there is none that hath left house, or parents, or brothers, or sisters, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God, and hath received much more in this time, and in the age to come, eternal life.

Luke 18:15-17; 26–30

The Gospel of Luke, conceived 91

In those days a certain man came up to Jesus, tempting Him and saying, "Good Teacher! What must I do to inherit eternal life? Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? no one is good but God alone; Thou knowest the commandments: Thou shalt not commit adultery, thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not bear false witness, but thou shalt honour thy father and thy mother. And he said, All these things I have kept from my youth. When Jesus heard this, he said to him, "There is one more thing that you lack: all that you have, sell and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven, and come and follow me." And when he heard this, he was grieved, because he was very rich. Jesus, seeing that he was grieved, said, "How difficult it is for those who have riches to enter into the kingdom of God! for it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God. Those who heard this said, "Who then can be saved?" But He said, "What is impossible for men is possible with God."

Luke 18:18–27

Week 30.

The Gospel of Luke, conceived 92

In those days, having called away His twelve disciples, He said to them, Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all that is written through the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be fulfilled: for they will deliver Him up to the Gentiles, and mock Him, and insult Him, and spit on Him, and smite Him, and kill Him: and on the third day He will rise again. But they did not understand any of this; These words were hidden to them, and they did not understand what was said.
