How to Read the Bible

42 they cry out, but there is no one to save; to the Lord, but He hearkens not to them;

43 I scatter them as dust in the face of the wind, as the filth of the street I trample on them.

44 Thou hast delivered me from the rebellion of the people, and hast made me the head of the foreigners; a people whom I did not know serve me;

45 By the mere rumour of me they obey me; foreigners caress me before me;

46 The foreigners turn pale and tremble in their fortifications.

47 As the Lord lives, and blessed is my defender! May the God of my salvation be exalted;

48 God, who avenges me, and subdues the nations to me,

49 And he who delivers me from my enemies! Thou hast exalted me above them that rise up against me, and hast delivered me from a cruel man.

50 Therefore I will praise thee, O Lord, among the foreigners, and I will sing praises to thy name,

51 Who majestically saves the king, and shows mercy to Thy anointed David and his seed for ever.

7. The Ark in Zion (2 Samuel 6; Psalm 23:7-10)

1 And David gathered together again all the choicest men of Israel, thirty thousand.

2 And David arose, and went and went, and all the people who were with him from Baal of Judah, to bring thence the ark of God, on which is called the name of the Lord of hosts, which sits on the cherubim.

3 And they put the ark of God on a new chariot, and took it out of the house of Aminadab which is on the hill. And the sons of Aminadab, Uzzah and Ahio, drove a new chariot.

4 And they brought her with the ark of God out of the house of Aminadab which is on the hill; and Ahio went before the ark.

5 And David and all the children of Israel played before the Lord with all kinds of musical instruments of cypress wood, and on the zither, and on the psalters, and on the tymbrum, and on the systers, and on the cymbals.

6 And when they came to the threshing floor of Nahon, Uzzah stretched out his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it, for the oxen had bent it.

7 But the Lord was angry with Uzzah, and God smote him there for his boldness, and he died there by the ark of God.

8 And David was grieved that the Lord had smitten Uzzah. To this day this place is called: "the defeat of Uzzah."

9 And David feared the Lord in that day, and said, 'How shall the ark of the Lord enter in to me?'

10 And David would not take the ark of the Lord to his own city of David, but turned it into the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.
