8. The prophecy of Nathan. The Promise to the House of David (2 Samuel 7:8-17)

And now thus say unto my servant David, Thus saith the Lord of hosts: I have taken thee out of the flock of sheep, that thou mayest be the leader of my people Israel;

And I was with thee wherever thou went, and destroyed all thy enemies before thee, and made thy name great as the name of the great ones on earth.

And I will make a place for my people Israel, and I will root them, and they shall dwell quietly in their place, and shall be no more troubled, and wicked men shall no longer oppress them as before,

From the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel; and I will give you rest from all your enemies. And the Lord declares to you that He will build you a house.

And when thy days shall be fulfilled, and thou shalt rest with thy fathers, I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall come out of thy loins, and I will establish his kingdom.

He will build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever.

I will be his father, and he will be my son; and if he sins, I will punish him with the rod of men, and with the blows of the sons of men.

but I will not take away my mercy from him, as I took away from Saul, whom I rejected before you.

And thy house and thy kingdom shall be immovable forever before me, and thy throne shall stand for ever.
