By water and blood and by the Spirit

I will not cast me out, 38 for I came down from heaven, not to do my will, but the will of him who sent me. 39 And it is the will of Him who sent Me that out of all that He has given Me, I should not destroy anything, but raise it up at the last day. 40 For it is my Father's will that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life. and I will raise him up at the last day. 41 And the Jews began to murmur against him, because he said, 'I am the bread that came down from heaven,' 42 and they said, 'Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know?' How then does He now say, "I came down from heaven?" 43 Jesus answered and said to them, 'Do not murmur among yourselves.' 44 No one can come to Me except the Father who sent Me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day. 45 It is written in the prophets: And all shall be taught of God. Everyone who hears from the Father and learns comes to Me. 46 Not that anyone has seen the Father, except Him who is of God: He has seen the Father. 47 Verily, verily, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life. E-48 I'm the bread of life. 49 Your fathers ate manna in the wilderness, and died. 50 This bread comes down from heaven, that a man may eat of it and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread he shall live for ever, and the bread which I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. 52 Then the Jews began to dispute among themselves, saying, 'How can he give us flesh to eat?' 53 Jesus said to them, "Verily, verily, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you." 54 He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood hath eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. 57 As the Living Father sent me, and I live by the Father, and he who eats me, he will also live by me. 58 This bread came down from heaven, not as the fathers ate and died. He who eats this bread will live forever. E-59 He said these things in the synagogue while teaching in Capernaum. 60 And many of his disciples said, 'This word is difficult.' Who can listen to him? 61 And Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples were murmuring about this, said to them, 'Does this offend you?' E-62 What then, if you see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? 63 The Spirit gives life, the flesh profiteth nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and this is life. 64 But there are some among you who do not believe. For Jesus knew from the beginning who the unbelievers were, and who would betray him. 65 And he said, 'Therefore I have told you that no man can come to me except he is given to him by the Father.' 66 From that time many of his disciples fell behind, and went no more with him. 67 Then Jesus said to the twelve, 'Will you not also go away?' 68 And Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go?" Thou hast the words of eternal life, 69 and we have believed and known that Thou art the Christ, the Holy One of God. 70 Jesus answered them, 'Have I not chosen you, the Twelve?' And one of you is the devil. 71 And he spoke of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. For he, one of the Twelve, was to betray Him.

1 And after these things Jesus walked in Galilee, for he would not walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him. 2 And the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles was near, 3 His brethren said to him, 'Go from hence, and go into Judea, that your disciples also may see your works which you do,4 for no one does anything in secret, but wants to be seen himself: if you do this, show yourself to the world.' 5 For even his brethren did not believe in him. 6 Jesus said to them, "My time has not yet come, but there is always a time for you." 7 The world cannot hate you. But he hates me, because I bear witness of him that his works are evil. E-8 You're going to a feast. I will not go to this feast yet because My time has not yet come. 9 And when he had said these things to them, he remained in Galilee. 10 And when his brethren went to the feast, then he himself went, not openly, but as in secret. 11 And the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he? 12 And there was much talk about him among the people. Some said: He is good; others said, "No, but he is misleading the people." 13 However, no one spoke openly about him for fear of the Jews. 14 When the feast was already halfway through,

Jesus went into the temple and taught. 15 And the Jews were amazed, saying, 'How does he know the Scriptures, without having passed through the teaching?' 16 Jesus answered them, and said, "My teaching is not mine, but Him who sent me." 17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of this doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. 18 He who speaks of himself seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of Him who sent Him is true, and there is no unrighteousness in him. 19 Did not Moses give you the Law? And none of you keeps the Law. Why do you seek to kill Me? 20 And the people answered, 'The devil is in thee, who seeketh to kill thee?' 21 Jesus answered and said to them, 'I have done one thing, and you are all amazed at it.' 22 Moses gave you circumcision, not that it was from Moses, it was from the fathers, and on the Sabbath you circumcise a man. 23 If a man is circumcised on the Sabbath, so that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me, because I made the whole man well on the Sabbath? 24 Judge not by appearance, but judge with righteous judgment. 25 And some of the people of Jerusalem said, 'Is this not the one whom they seek to kill?' 26 And behold, he speaks openly, and nothing is said to him. Did the rulers really know that this was Christ? E-27 But of Him we know whence He is. And when Christ comes, no one will know where He comes from. 28 And Jesus cried out in the temple, teaching, saying, 'You also know me, and you know whence I come, and I have not come from myself, but he who sent me is true, whom you do not know.' 29 I know Him because I am of Him, and He sent Me. 30 They sought to seize him, and no one laid hands on him, because his hour had not yet come. 31 And many of the multitude believed on him, and said, 'When Christ comes, will he do more signs than this one did?' 32 And when the Pharisees heard these rumors about him in the multitude, the chief priests and the Pharisees sent ministers to seize him. 33 Then Jesus said, 'Yet a little while I am with you, and I am going to him who sent me; 34 ye shall seek me, and ye shall not find me; and where I am, there you cannot go. 35 And the Jews said to one another, 'Where is he going to go, that we shall not find him?' Is He not going to be scattered among the Greeks and teach the Greeks? 36 What is this word that He said, 'You will seek Me, and you will not find Me; and where am I, there you cannot go? 37 And on the last, great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, 'If any man thirst, let him come to me and drink.' 38 Whosoever believeth on me, as the Scripture says, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. E-39 This He said about the Spirit that those who believe in Him were to receive. For there was no Spirit yet, because Jesus was not yet glorified. 40 And when some of the multitude heard these words, they said, 'This is indeed a prophet.' 41 Others said, "This is Christ." And others said, "Will Christ come from Galilee?" 42 Did not the Scriptures say that from the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was, Christ would come? 43 And then there was a division in the crowd because of him: 44 some of them wanted to seize him, but no one laid hands on him. 45 So the officers came to the chief priests and the Pharisees, and they said to them, 'Why did you not bring him?' 46 And the ministers answered, "Never before has a man spoken like this man." 47 And the Pharisees answered them, 'Have you also been deceived?' E-48 Did any of the rulers believe in Him, or of the Pharisees? E-49 But this crowd that does not know the Law, they are cursed. 50 Nicodemus, who came to him before (he was one of them), said to them, 51 Does our law judge a man without hearing him first, and knowing what he is doing? 52 And they answered and said to him, 'Are you not also of Galilee?' Search and make sure that the prophet does not come from Galilee. 53 And they went every man to his own house.

1 And Jesus went up to the Mount of Olives. 2 And in the morning he came again to the temple, and all the people came to him. He sat down and taught them. 3 And the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery, and having placed her in the middle, 4 they said to him, 'Teacher, this woman has been caught in the place of adultery.' 5 And in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such ones. So, what do you say? 6 These things they spoke, tempting him, that they might have an accusation against him. Jesus, bending low, was writing on the ground with his finger. 7 A

and when they persisted in questioning Him, He lifted up His head and said to them, "Whoever is without sin among you, let him be the first to cast a stone at her." 8 And again, bending down, he wrote on the ground. 9 And when they heard this, they began to depart, one by one, beginning with the elders, and only Jesus and the woman were left in the middle. 10 Jesus lifted up his head and said to her, 'Woman, where are they?' Did no one condemn you? 11 And she said, 'No one, Lord.' Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you." Go, sin no more from now on.] [114] 12 So Jesus said to them again, "I am the light of the world." He who follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. 13 Then the Pharisees said to him, 'You bear witness to yourself.' Thy testimony is not true. 14 Jesus answered and said to them, "Though I bear witness of myself, my testimony is true, for I know whence I have come and whither I am going, but you do not know whence I have come or whither I am going. 15 You promise according to the flesh. I don't judge anyone. 16 But if I also judge, then my judgment is true, for I am not alone, but I am also He who sent Me. 17 And it is written in your law that the testimony of two men is true. 18 I bear witness of myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness of me. 19 Then they said to him, 'Where is your Father?' Jesus answered, "You do not know me, nor my Father." If ye knew me, ye would know my Father also. 20 These words he spake at the treasury, teaching in the temple; and no man has seized him, for his hour has not yet come. 21 Again he said to them, 'I am coming, and you will seek me, and in your sin you will die: whither I am going, you cannot go.' 22 And the Jews said at that time, 'Shall he not kill himself?' saying, 'Whither I am going, you cannot go?' 23 And he said to them, 'You are of the lowest, I am of the highest; you are of this world, I am not of this world. 24 And I have told you that you will die in your sins, for if you do not believe that I am, you will die in your sins. 25 And they said unto him, Who art thou? Jesus said to them, "What shall I speak to you about?" 26 Much must I speak and judge of you, but he who sent me is true, and what I have heard from him I say to the world. 27 They did not understand what he was saying to them about the Father. 28 Wherefore Jesus said, 'When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am, and that I do nothing of myself, but as the Father hath taught me, thus I say.' 29 And He who sent Me is with Me: He has not left Me alone, for I always do that which is pleasing to Him. E-30 As He said this, many believed on Him. 31 And Jesus said to the Jews who believed in him, 'If you continue in my word, you are indeed my disciples,32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.' 33 And they answered him, 'We are Abraham's seed, and we have never been slaves to anyone.' How then do You say, You will be made free? 34 Jesus answered them, "Verily, verily, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin." 35 But the servant does not abide in the house forever; The Son abides forever. E-36 Now, if the Son sets you free, you'll be free indeed. 37 I know that you are the seed of Abraham; but you seek to kill me, because my word is not contained in you. 38 What I have seen in my Father, that I say, and what you have heard in your father, that you do. 39 And they answered, and said unto him, 'Our father is Abraham.' Jesus said to them, "If you were the children of Abraham, you would do the works of Abraham." 40 Now you seek to kill me, the man who told you the truth, and I heard it from God. Abraham did not do this. 41 You do the works of your father. And they said unto him, We were not born in fornication; we have one Father: God. 42 Jesus said to them, 'If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and came: I did not come from myself, but he sent me.' 43 Why do you not understand My speech? For you cannot hear my words. 44 Ye are of your father, the devil, and you desire to do the lusts of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and did not stand in the truth,[115] because there is no truth in him. E-45 But to Me, because I speak the truth, you don't believe. 46 Which of you shall convict me of sin? If I speak the truth, why don't you believe Me? 47 He who is of God hears the words of God; you do not hear because you are not of God. 48 And the Jews answered, and said unto him, 'Have we not rightly said that thou art a Samaritan, and a demon in thee?' 49 Jesus answered, "There is no demon in me, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me." 50 But I do not seek my glory: there is one who seeks and he who judges. 51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever keepeth my word, he shall never see death. 52 And the Jews said unto him, 'Now we know that in the

Thou art a demon: Abraham died, and the prophets, and Thou sayest, If any man keep My word, he shall never taste death. 53 Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died. Who do You make Yourself to be? 54 Jesus answered, "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing: my Father is the one who glorifies me, he of whom you say that he is your God." 55 And ye have not known him, but I know him. And if I say that I do not know Him, I will be like you, a liar like you, but I know Him and keep His word. 56 Abraham your father rejoiced because he was to see my day: and he saw, and rejoiced. 57 Then the Jews said to him, 'You are not yet fifty years old, and you have seen Abraham?' 58 Jesus said to them, 'Verily, verily, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.' 59 Then they took stones to throw at Him. And Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.

1 And as he passed, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who has sinned, he or his parents, that he was born blind? 3 Jesus answered, "Neither has he sinned, nor his parents, but this is that the works of God may be manifested in him." 4 We must do the works of him who sent me while there is day: the night comes, when no one can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. 6 And when he had said this, he spat on the ground, and made a mixture of saliva, and anointed his eyes with the mixture, 7 and said to him, "Go and wash in the pool of Siloam." He went and washed himself, and came back seeing. 8 Then the neighbors, and those who had seen him before, because he was a beggar, began to say, 'Is this not the one who sits here begging alms?' 9 And some said, It is he; others said, "No, but I look like him." He said, 'It is I.' 10 And they said to him, 'How then were your eyes opened?' 11 He answered, "A man called Jesus made a mixture and anointed my eyes, and said to me, 'Go to Siloam and wash yourself.' I went and, having washed, regained my sight. 12 And they said to him, 'Where is he?' He said: I don't know. E-13 They bring him to the Pharisees, that former blind man. E-14 And it was the Sabbath on the day that Jesus made the mixture and opened his eyes. 15 Again the Pharisees began to ask him how he had received his sight. And he said unto them, He hath put the mixture upon my eyes, and I have washed, and I see. 16 And some of the Pharisees said, "This man is not of God, because he does not keep the Sabbath." Others said, "How can a sinful man do such signs?" And there was a division between them. 17 Then again they say to the blind man, 'What say thou of him, for he hath opened thy eyes?' And he said, He is a prophet.

22 And these things were said by his parents, because they were afraid of the Jews, for the Jews had already agreed among themselves, If any man confess him to be the Christ, let him be excommunicated from the synagogue. E-23 So his parents said, "He's an adult, ask him." 24 So they called a man a second time, one who was blind, and said to him, 'Give glory to God; we know that That Man is a sinner. 25 And he answered, 'Whether he is a sinner, I do not know; One thing I know is that I was blind and now I see. 26 And they said unto him, 'What hath he done unto thee?' How did he open his eyes to you? 27 And he answered them, 'I have already told you, and you have not heard.' Why do you want to listen again? Do you also want to become His disciples? 28 And they rebuked him, and said, 'You are a disciple of Him, and we are disciples of Moses.' E-20 We know what God spoke to Moses, but we don't know where He came from. 30 And the man answered, and said unto them, 'It is strange that ye know not whence he comes, but he hath opened my eyes.' 31 We know that God does not listen to sinners: but if anyone fears God and does His will, he listens to him. 32 From eternity it has not been heard that anyone has opened the eyes of a man born blind. 33 If He had not been of God, He could have done nothing. 34 And they answered and said to him, 'Thou hast been born all in sins, and thou dost teach us?' And they threw him out. 35 And when Jesus heard that they had cast him out, he found him, and said, "Thou believest in the Son

Human? 36 And he answered, and said, 'Who is He, Lord, that I should believe in Him?' 37 Jesus said to him, 'And you have seen him, and he who speaks to you is he.' 38 And he said, 'I believe, Lord,' and he worshipped him. 39 And Jesus said, 'I have come into this world for judgment, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.' 40 And those of the Pharisees who were with him heard this, and said to him, 'Are we also blind?' 41 Jesus said to them, 'If you had been blind, you would have no sin.' But now you say, We see. Your sin remains.

1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever enters not by the door into the sheepfold, but enters by another way, is a thief and a robber; 2 And he who enters in by the door is a shepherd to the sheep, 3 To him the gatekeeper openeth it, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his sheep by name, and brings them out. 4 And when he has driven out all his men, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, because they know his voice. 5 But they will not follow a stranger, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers. 6 Jesus said this parable to them, "But they did not understand the meaning of what he was saying to them." 7 Jesus said again, "Verily, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep." 8 All who came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the door: through me, if any man come in, he will be saved, and he will go in and go out, and he will find pasture. 10 A thief comes only to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come to have life, and to have it more abundantly, and I am the good shepherd. A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 A hireling, and not a shepherd, he who has no sheep of his own, sees the wolf coming, and leaving the sheep, and fleeing, 13 because he is a hireling, and he cares not for the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd, and I know mine, and my people know me. 15 As the Father knoweth me, I also know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 And the other sheep I have, not of this fold, and these I must bring, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one flock, one Shepherd. 17 Therefore the Father loves me, because I lay down my soul to receive it again. 18 No one has taken it from me, but I put it myself. I have the power to lay it down, and I have the power to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father. 19 Again, there was a division among the Jews because of these words. 20 Many of them said, 'A demon is in him, and he is mad.' Why do you listen to Him? 21 And others said, These are not the words of one who is possessed by a demon: Can a demon open the eyes of the blind? 22 Then came the feast of the Dedication in Jerusalem; It was winter. 23 And Jesus walked in the temple, in Solomon's porch. 24 Then the Jews surrounded him, and said unto him, How long wilt thou afflict our souls? If You're the Christ, tell us openly. 25 Jesus answered them, "I have told you, and you do not believe; the works which I do in the name of my Father, they bear witness of me; 26 but you do not believe, because you are not of my sheep. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me, 28 and I give them everlasting life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any man snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given me a gift, is greater than all,[116] and out of the hand of the Father no one can steal, 30 I and the Father are one. 31 Again the Jews took stones to beat Him. 32 Jesus answered them, "I have shown you many good works from the Father." For which of these deeds do you stone Me? 35 And the Jews answered him, 'We do not stone you for a good deed, but because of blasphemy, and because you, being a man, make yourself God.' 34 Jesus answered them, 'Is it not written in your law, 'I said, 'You are gods?' 35 If the Law has called gods those to whom the word of God has come, and the Scriptures cannot be abolished, 36 Do you say to Him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, 'You blaspheme, because I said, 'I am the Son of God'? 37 If I do not the works of my Father, do not believe me. 38 But if I do, then, though they do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and know that the Father is in me, and I am in the Father. 39 Then they sought to seize him again, but he turned away from their hand. 40 And he went again to the other side of the Jordan, to the place where John had baptized before, and remained there. 41 And many came to him, and said that John had done no sign, but all that John had said about him was true. E-42 And many believed on Him there.
