Bible. Books of the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments

And Jacob heard that he had dishonored Dinah his daughter, but because his sons were with his cattle in the field, Jacob was silent until they came.

And Hamor the father of Shechem went out to Jacob to speak with him.

And the sons of Jacob came down from the field, and when they heard it, those men were grieved, and were inflamed with anger, because he had done a disgrace to Israel, by sleeping with the daughter of Jacob, and it was not proper to do so.

And Hamor spake unto them, and said, Shechem my son hath cleaved his soul unto your daughter; give her to him to wife;

Become related to us; Give your daughters for us, and take our daughters for yourselves.

and dwell with us; This land is before you, dwell and trade in it, and acquire it for possession.

And Shechem said to her father and to her brethren, 'If only I may find favor in your eyes, I will give whatever you say to me;

appoint the greatest vein and gifts; I will give you whatever you say to me, only give me the maiden to wife.

And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father with deceit; but they said so because he had dishonored Dinah their sister;

And they said to them, 'We cannot do this, to give our sister to a man who is uncircumcised, for it is dishonorable to us.

Only on this condition will we agree with you, if you are like us, that all your males may be circumcised.

And we will give our daughters in marriage to you, and take your daughters in marriage, and we will dwell with you, and we will make one nation.

And if ye do not obey us in circumcision, we will take our daughter, and depart.

And Hamor, and Shechem the son of Hamor, pleased these words.
