12 appoint the greatest vein and gifts; I will give you whatever you say to me, only give me the maiden to wife.

13 And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father with deceit; but they said so because he had dishonored Dinah their sister;

14 And they said to them, 'We cannot do this, to give our sister to a man who is uncircumcised, for it is dishonorable to us.

15 Only on this condition will we agree with you, if you are like us, that all your males may be circumcised.

16 And we will give our daughters in marriage to you, and take your daughters in marriage, and we will dwell with you, and we will make one nation.

17 And if ye do not obey us in circumcision, we will take our daughter, and depart.

18 And Hamor, and Shechem the son of Hamor, pleased these words.

19 The young man did not know how to do this, because he loved the daughter of Jacob. And he was the most respected of all from his father's house.

20 And Hamor and Shechem his son came to the gates of their city, and spoke to the inhabitants of their city, saying,

21 These people are at peace with us; let them dwell on the earth and trade in it; but the earth is wide before them. Let us take their daughters as our wives and give our daughters in marriage.

22 Only on this condition do men consent to dwell with us, and to be one people, that all the males also may be circumcised among us, as they are circumcised.

23 Are not their flocks, and their possessions, and all their cattle for us? Only [in this] will we agree with them, and they will live with us.

24 And all those who came out of the gates of his city obeyed Hamor and Shechem his son, and all the males were circumcised, all who came out of the gates of his city.

25 And on the third day, while they were sick, the two sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, the brethren of Dininas, took each his sword, and boldly attacked the city, and slew all the males;
