30 Then his brother came out with a red thread on his hand. And his name was called Zara.

Chapter 39

1 And Joseph was taken into Egypt, and bought him out of the hands of the Ishmaelites, who had brought him thither, Potiphar the Egyptian, the courtier of the Pharaohs, the captain of the guards.

2 And the Lord was with Joseph: he prospered in business, and dwelt in the house of his lord the Egyptian.

3 And his lord saw that the Lord was with him, and that all that he did the Lord in his hands prospered.

4 And Joseph found favor in his sight, and served him. And he set him over his house, and all that he had he gave into his hands.

5 And from the time that he set him over his house, and over all that he had, the Lord blessed the house of the Egyptian for Joseph's sake, and the blessing of the Lord was upon all that he had in the house and in the field.

6 And he left all that he had in the hands of Joseph, and knew nothing with him except the bread which he was eating. But Joseph was handsome in stature and handsome in countenance.

7 And his master's wife turned her eyes on Joseph, and said, Sleep with me.

8 But he refused, and said to his master's wife, 'Behold, my lord knoweth nothing in my house, and all that he hath he hath he hath into my hands;

9 I am no more in this house; and he hath forbidden me nothing but thee, because thou art his wife; how then shall I do this great evil and sin before God?

10 And when she spake thus daily unto Joseph, and he would not obey her, that he might sleep with her, and be with her,

11 And it came to pass one day that he went into the house to do his work, and there was none of his household in the house.

12 And she seized him by his garment, and said, Lie down with me. But he, leaving his garment in her hands, ran and ran out.
