Bible. Books of the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments

29 And [Joseph] lifted up his eyes, and saw Benjamin his brother, his mother's son, and said, 'Is this your younger brother, of whom you have told me?' And he said, May the mercy of God be with you, my son!

30 And Joseph departed in haste, because his love for his brother was boiling, and he was about to weep, and he went into the inner chamber and wept there.

31 And when he had washed his face, he went out, and was braced, and said, 'Serve me the food.'

32 And they gave it to him separately, and to them separately, and to the Egyptians who dined with him, especially, for the Egyptians cannot eat with the Hebrews, because it is an abomination to the Egyptians.

33 And they sat down before him, the firstborn after his birthright, and the youngest after his youth, and the men marveled at one another.

34 And food was sent unto them from him, and Benjamin's portion was five times the portion of each of them. And they drank, and drank enough with him.

Chapter 44

1 And [Joseph] commanded the ruler of his house, saying, "Fill the sacks of these people with food as much as they can carry, and put the money of each one in the hole of his bag,

2 And my cup, the silver cup, thou shalt put into the opening of the sack of the youngest, together with the silver for the bread which he bought. And he did according to the word of Joseph, which he had spoken.

3 And in the morning, when it was daylight, these men were let go, they and their asses.

4 And they were not far from the city, when Joseph said to the ruler of his house, 'Go, overtake these men, and when you have caught up, say to them, 'Why have you paid evil for good?' [Why did they steal my silver cup?]

5 Is this not the same of which my lord drinks, and he divineth therein? You did it badly.

6 He caught up with them and spoke these words to them.

7 And they said unto him, Why hath our lord spoken these words? No, your servants will not do such a thing.
