Bible. Books of the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments

If they break my statutes, and do not keep my commandments,

I will punish their iniquity with a rod, and their iniquity with blows.

But I will not take away my mercy from him, neither will I change my truth.

I will not break my covenant, neither will I change the things that have come out of my mouth.

Once I swore by my holiness, 'Will I lie to David?'

His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne shall be like the sun before me,

For ever he shall be as firm as the moon, and a faithful witness in heaven."

But now Thou hast rejected and despised, Thou hast been angry with Thy anointed;

Thou hast despised the covenant with thy servant, hath cast down his crown to the ground;

And he hath broken down all the walls thereof, and made his fortresses in ruins.

All who pass by the way plunder it; he became the laughing stock of his neighbors.

Thou hast exalted the right hand of his adversaries, Thou hast made all his enemies gladden;

Thou hast turned back the edge of his sword, and hast not strengthened him in battle;

He took away his splendour, and threw his throne to the ground;

He shortened the days of his youth, and covered him with shame.

How long, O Lord, wilt thou hide thyself continually, shall thy wrath burn like fire?

Remember what age I have: for what vanity hast thou created all the sons of men?

Who among men lived, and did not see death, delivered his soul from the hand of hell?

Where are Thy former mercies, O Lord? Thou hast sworn to David by Thy truth.

Remember, O Lord, the reproach of thy servants, which I bear in my bosom from all mighty nations;

how thy enemies reproach, O Lord, how they profane the footsteps of thy anointed.
