Bible. Books of the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments

55 And the chief priests, and all the Sanhedrin,47 sought a testimony against Jesus, that they might put him to death; And they did not find it.

56 For many bore false witness against him, but these testimonies were not sufficient.

57 And some stood up, bearing false witness against him, saying,

58 and we heard him say, 'I will destroy this temple made with hands, and in three days I will raise up another one not made with hands.'

59 But even such a testimony was not enough.

60 Then the high priest stood in the midst and asked Jesus, 'Why do you not answer?' why do they bear witness against Thee?

61 But He was silent, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked Him and said to Him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?

E-62 Jesus said, "I; and you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of power, coming on the clouds of heaven.

63 Then the high priest tore his garments, and said, "What more witnesses have we to do?

64 Ye have heard blasphemy; What do you think? And they all found Him guilty of death.

65 And some began to spit on him, and covering his face, they smote him, and said to him, 'Prophesy.' And the servants smote Him on the cheeks.

E-66 While Peter was in the courtyard below, one of the high priest's maidservants came

67 And when she saw Peter warming himself, and looked at him, she said, 'And you were with Jesus of Nazareth.'

68 But he denied, saying, "I do not know and do not understand what you say." And he went out into the front yard; And the rooster crowed.

69 And the maidservant, seeing him again, began to say to those standing there, "This is one of them."

70 He denied again. After a while, those who stood there again began to say to Peter, "Surely you are one of them; for thou art a Galilean, and thy tongue is alike.

71 And he began to swear, and to swear, 'I do not know this man of whom ye speak.'

72 Then the rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered the word that Jesus had spoken to him, "Before the crows twice, thrice shalt thou deny me; and began to cry.

Chapter 15

1 Immediately in the morning the chief priests, with the elders and the scribes, and all the Sanhedrin, took counsel, and having bound Jesus, they led him away, and delivered him up to Pilate.

2 Pilate asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?" And he answered and said unto him, Thou speakest.
