13

     1 Before the feast of the Passover, Jesus, knowing that his hour had come to pass from this world to the Father, showed by his deed that having loved his own who are in the world, he loved them to the end.  2 And at the time of supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot of Simon to betray him, 3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going to God, 4 he arose from the supper, and took off his outer garment, and took a towel, and girded himself.  5 Then he poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which he was girded.  6 He came up to Simon Peter, and he said to Him, "Lord! Do you wash my feet?  7 Jesus answered and said to him, 'What I am doing, you do not know now, but you will understand later.'  8 Peter said to him, "You will never wash my feet." Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with me."  9 Simon Peter said to Him, "Lord! not only my feet, but also my hands and head.  10 Jesus said to him, "He who has been washed need only wash his feet, because he is completely clean; and you are pure, but not all.  11 For he knew his betrayer, therefore he said, 'You are not all pure.'  12 And when he had washed their feet, and put on his garments, he sat down again, and said to them, 'Do you know what I have done to you?'  E-13 You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right to speak, for I am exactly that.  14 Therefore, if I, the Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also must wash one another's feet.  15 For I have given you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you.  16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, A servant is not greater than his master, and a messenger is not greater than he that sent him.  17 If you know this, blessed are you when you do.  18 I do not speak of all of you; I know whom I have chosen. But let the Scripture be fulfilled: He that eateth bread with me lifteth up his heel against me.  19 Now I tell you, before it comes to pass, so that when it comes to pass, you may believe that it is I.  20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth him whom I send receiveth me; but he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.  21 And when Jesus had said these things, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, 'Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.'  22 Then the disciples looked at one another, wondering of whom he was speaking.  23 And one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, reclined at the breast of Jesus.  24 To him Simon Peter made a sign to ask who he was talking about.  25 And he fell down on the bosom of Jesus, and said to him, 'Lord! Who is this?  26 Jesus answered, "He to whom I will dip a piece of bread and give." And having dipped a piece, he gave it to Judas Iscariot of Simon.  27 And after this morsel Satan entered into him. Then Jesus said to him, "What you do, do quickly."  28 But none of those who sat at table understood why he had said these things to him.  29 And since Judas had a box, some thought that Jesus was saying to him, "Buy what we need for the feast, or give something to the poor."  30 And he took the morsel, and straightway went out; And it was night.

     31 And when he went out, Jesus said, 'Today the Son of man is glorified, and God is glorified in him.'  32 If God is glorified in Him, God also will glorify Him in Himself, and will soon glorify Him.  33 Children! I will not be long with you. You will seek me, and as I said to the Jews, that where I am going you cannot come, so I say to you now.  34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.  35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.  36 Simon Peter said to him, "Lord! where are you going? Jesus answered him, "Where I am going, you cannot now follow Me, but after that you will follow Me."  37 Peter said to him, "Lord! why can't I follow Thee now? I will lay down my life for Thee.  38 Jesus answered him, "Will you lay down your life for me?" verily, verily, I say unto thee, The shall not crow until thou hast denied Me thrice.

     1 Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, and believe in me.  2 In My Father's house there are many mansions. And if it were not so, I would say to you, I am going to prepare a place for you.  3 And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and will receive you unto myself, that you also may be where I am.  4 And whither I am going, you know, and you know the way.  5 Thomas said to him, "Lord! we do not know where you are going; and how can we know the way?  6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.  7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. And from now on you know Him and have seen Him.  8 Philip said to him, "Lord! show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.  9 Jesus said to him, "How long have I been with you, and you do not know me, Philip?" He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how then do you say, show us the Father?  10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak of myself; The Father who dwells in Me, He does the works.  11 Believe me, that I am in the Father, and the Father in me; and if not, believe Me according to your very works.  12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works which I do, he shall do also, and greater than these, for I am coming unto my Father.  13 And if you ask the Father anything in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  14 If you ask anything in my name, I will do it.  15 If you love me, keep my commandments.  16 And I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, that he may be with you forever, 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see him and does not know him; but you know Him, for He is with you, and will be in you.  18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.  19 A little while, and the world will see me no more; but you will see me, for I live, and you will live.  20 In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.  21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, loveth me; but whoever loves Me will be loved by My Father; and I will love him and appear to him myself.  22 Judas, who is not Iscariot, saith unto him, Lord! what is this, that You want to reveal Yourself to us, and not to the world?  23 Jesus answered and said to him, 'Whoever loves me will keep my word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make our abode with him.  24 He that loveth not me keepeth not my words; but the word that you hear is not mine, but the Father who sent me.  25 These things have I said to you while I was with you.  26 But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said to you.  27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world gives, I give unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, and let it not be afraid.  28 And ye have heard that I said unto you, I am coming from you, and I will come unto you. If you loved me, you would rejoice that I said, I go to the Father; for My Father is greater than I.  29 And behold, I told you these things before it came to pass, that ye might believe when it should come to pass.  30 It is a little longer for me to speak to you; for the prince of this world is coming, and in me he has nothing.  31 But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father has commanded me, so do I do, arise, let us depart from hence.

     1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.  2 Every branch of me that does not bear fruit he cuts off; and every one that beareth fruit, He cleanses, that it may bear more fruit.  3 You have already been cleansed through the word which I have preached to you.  4 Abide in me, and I in you. As a branch cannot bear fruit of its own accord unless it be on the vine, so also are you, unless you are in Me.  5 I am the vine, and you are the branches; whoever abides in me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.  6 Whoever does not abide in me will be cast out like a branch, and will wither; but such branches are gathered and thrown into the fire, and they are burned.  7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatsoever ye will, and it shall be done unto you.  8 By this will my Father be glorified, if you bear much fruit, and be my disciples.  9 As the Father has loved me, I have also loved you; abide in my love.  10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love, even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.  11 These things have I said unto you, that my joy may abide in you, and that your joy may be complete.  12 This is my commandment, that ye love one another, as I have loved you.  13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.  14 You are my friends, if you do what I command you.  15 I no longer call you servants, for a servant knoweth not what his master doeth; but I have called you friends, because I have told you all that I have heard from my Father.  16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give unto you.  17 This I command you, that you love one another.  18 If the world hates you, know that it hated me before it hated you.  19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.  20 Remember the word which I have spoken to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also; if you have kept my word, they will keep yours also.  21 But all these things will be done to you for my name's sake, because they do not know him who sent me.  22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have had no sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.  23 He that hateth me hates my Father also.  24 If I had not done among them works which no one else had done, they would have had no sin; but now they have seen and hated me and my Father.  25 But let the word be fulfilled which is written in their law, 'They hated me without a cause.'  26 But when the Comforter comes, whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness to me.  27 and ye also shall bear witness, for ye are with me first.

     1 These things have I spoken unto you, that ye may not be offended.  2 They shall cast you out of the synagogues; even the time comes when everyone who kills you will think that he is serving God.  3 They will do this, because they have not known the Father or Me.  4 But I have spoken these things unto you, that when the time comes, ye may remember that I have spoken unto you concerning them; but I did not say these things to you at first, because I was with you.  5 But now I go to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, 'Where are you going?'  6 But because I have told you these things, your heart is filled with sorrow.  7 But I tell you the truth, It is better for you that I should go; for if I do not go, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you, 8 and when he comes, he will rebuke the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 of sin, because they do not believe in me;  10 Of the righteousness, that I go to my Father, and ye shall see me no more;  11 And of the judgment, that the prince of this world is condemned.  12 Yet I have many things to say to you; but now you can't contain it.  13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth: for he will not speak of himself, but will speak what he hears, and will declare things to you to come.  14 He will glorify me, because he will take of mine and declare it to you.  15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I have said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.  16 Soon you will not see me, and again soon you will see me, for I am going to the Father.  17 And some of his disciples said one to another, 'Why is this that he says to us, 'A little while you will not see me, but again a little while you will see me,' and 'I am going to the Father?'  18 So they said, 'What is this that he says, 'Soon'? We don't know what he says.  19 And when Jesus understood that they were going to ask him, he said to them, 'Do you ask one another, that I said, 'A little while you will not see me, and again soon you will see me?' 20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, ye shall weep and mourn, but the world shall rejoice; you will be sad, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.  21 A woman, when she gives birth, suffereth sorrow, because her hour is come; but when she gives birth to a child, she no longer remembers sorrow for joy, because a man was born into the world.  22 So now you also have sorrow; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.  23 And in that day you will not ask Me anything. Verily, verily, I say unto you, whatsoever ye ask the Father in my name, he shall give it unto you.  24 Hitherto ye have asked nothing in my name; ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be complete.  25 Hitherto I have spoken unto you in parables; but the time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in parables, but will tell you plainly about the Father.  26 In that day ye shall ask in my name, and I say not unto you that I will ask the Father for you: 27 for the Father himself loves you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I have come from God.  28 I went forth from the Father, and came into the world; and again I leave the world and go to the Father.  29 And his disciples said unto him, Behold, now thou speakest plainly, and speakest no parable.  30 Now we see that you know all things, and have no need that anyone should ask you. Therefore we believe that Thou hast come from God.  31 Jesus answered them, 'Do you believe now?'  32 Behold, the hour is coming, and it is already come, that ye shall be scattered every man in his own direction, and ye shall leave me alone. but I am not alone, for the Father is with Me.  33 These things have I spoken unto you, that ye may have peace in me. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer: I have overcome the world.

     1 After these words, Jesus lifted up his eyes to heaven and said, "Father, forgive them! The hour has come, glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee, 2 for thou hast given him dominion over all flesh, that all that thou hast given him he may give eternal life.  3 But this is eternal life, that they may know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.  4 I have glorified thee on earth, I have done the work which thou hast commissioned me to do.  5 And now, O Father, glorify Me with Thee with the glory which I had with Thee before the world was.  6 I have made thy name known unto men whom thou hast given me out of the world; they were thine, and thou hast given them unto me, and they have kept thy word.  7 Now they have understood that all that Thou hast given Me is of Thee, 8 for the words which Thou hast given Me I have delivered unto them, and they have received, and have understood truly, that I have come forth from Thee, and have believed that Thou hast sent Me.  9 I pray for them: I pray not for the whole world, but for those whom you have given me, because they are yours.  10 And all that is mine is thine, and thine is mine; and I was glorified in them.  11 I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father! keep them in Thy name, those whom Thou hast given Me, that they may be one, even as We are.  12 When I was at peace with them, I kept them in your name; those whom thou hast given me I have preserved, and none of them have perished except the son of perdition, that the scripture may be fulfilled.  13 But now I come unto thee, and these things I say in the world, that they may have in them my perfect joy.  14 I have delivered unto them thy word; and the world hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.  15 I do not pray that you will take them out of the world, but that you will keep them from evil.  16 They are no part of the world, just as I am no part of the world.  17 Sanctify them with Thy truth; Thy word is truth.  18 As thou hast sent me into the world, so have I sent them into the world.  19 And for them I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.  20 And I pray not only for them, but also for them that believe in me according to their word, 21 that they may all be one, as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, so that they also may be one in us, that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.  22 And the glory which thou hast given me, I have given unto them: that they may be one, even as we are one.  23 I am in them, and you are in me; that they may be made one, and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them as thou hast loved me.  24 Father! whom Thou hast given Me, I desire that where I am, they also should be with Me, that they may see My glory, which Thou hast given Me, because Thou didst love Me before the foundation of the world.  25 Righteous Father! and the world did not know Thee; but I have known Thee, and these have come to know that Thou hast sent Me.  26 And I have made thy name known unto them, and I will reveal it, that the love with which thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

     1 And when Jesus had said this, he went out with his disciples beyond the brook Kidron, where there was a garden, into which he himself and his disciples entered.  2 And Judas, his betrayer, knew the place, because Jesus often gathered there with his disciples.  3 So Judas, having taken a band of soldiers and ministers from the chief priests and Pharisees, came thither with lanterns and lamps and weapons.  4 And Jesus, knowing all that would happen to him, went out and said to them, 'Whom are you looking for?  5 And they answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus said to them, "This is I." And Judas, his betrayer, stood with them.  6 And when he said to them, 'This is I,' they turned back and fell to the ground.  7 And he asked them again, Whom are you seeking? They said, Jesus of Nazareth.  8 Jesus answered, "I told you that it was I; Therefore if ye seek me, leave them, let them go, 9 that the word which he spoke may be fulfilled: Of those whom thou hast given me, I have destroyed none.  10 And Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The slave's name was Malchus.  11 But Jesus said to Peter, 'Put the sword into its sheath; Shall I not drink the cup which the Father has given Me?  12 Then the soldiers, and the captain, and the officers of the Jews, took Jesus, and bound him,

     13 And they took him first to Annas, for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest for that year.  14 It was Caiaphas who advised the Jews that it was better for one man to die for the people.
