Daniil Sysoev/Catechetical Conversations/ Library Golden-Ship.ru Priest Daniel Sysoev CATECHETICAL CONVERSATIONS Publishing House of the Church of the Prophet Daniel on Kantemirovskaya, Moscow, 2007   Orthodox Library, Golden Ship, 2012 TABLE OF CONTENTS On God and the Holy Scriptures On the Commandments of God On the Mystery of the Incarnation of God On Baptism and the Sacraments of the Church On Good and Evil. On the struggle with sin.

Salvation is for God, pure for God. Without God, no one would have been saved. I will now explain the reason in more detail. But one can be saved only with the help of the Sacraments and good works. Why, for example, will Muslims, Buddhists, idolaters perish? Because they have not entered into union with God. Destruction is the state when God says: you wanted to live without Me – go. This is where death lies.

— Tell me, please, but they say that confessions are different, but God is one, how do you understand this? You were right in saying that God is one, and it is true that confessions are different, but you have drawn the wrong conclusion from this that all confessions lead to one God. This is a mistake. Why? We can say this: St. Petersburg is one, but the roads are different. Faithfully? — Of course — But it doesn't follow from this that I will come to St. Petersburg on any road.

- I mean Christian confessions. "It doesn't matter. What's the odds? Communion with God must be done by God. The church is the place of the Holy Spirit, Who appeared on the Day of Pentecost. "And how many Christians convert to Muslims!" "Well, what kind of Christians are they! They apply for various reasons. Christians convert to Islam because they need many wives. Or so that the husband does not drink.

"I know a woman who converted to Islam. "For what reason?" "My husband drinks. "Well, that's what I'm saying: so that my husband doesn't drink. You see, this is the logic of a woman: it is necessary that her husband does not drink. True, he will not drink, but will beat. The point is not that people are looking for the truth and therefore leave. Let's return to God. Let us move from the dispute about Muslims to a conversation about God.

Otherwise, we will never know the most important thing. Let's talk about God's feelings. First of all, we must remember that we have said that God is Love, but love is a state of will, not only of feelings. But God is also merciful, this is also a manifestation of feelings. In addition to the fact that He loves, He is also jealous, but this is not human jealousy. He does not want to humble himself if a person leaves Him.

When a person leaves God, do you think He looks at it calmly? — I don't think so. "God will say that His wrath and wrath will always haunt this man. There are these words in the Scriptures: "But if you do not listen to me, and do not do all these commandments, and if you despise my statutes, and if your soul abhors my laws, so that you do not do all my commandments, having broken my covenant, then I will do this to you: I will send upon you terror, stunting, and fever, because of which the eyes will grow weary, and the soul will be tormented; and you will sow your seeds in vain, and your enemies will eat them up; I will set my face against you, and you will fall before your enemies, and your enemies will rule over you, and you will flee when no one pursues you.

Even if you do not listen to Me, I will increase the punishment for your sins in every way, and I will break your proud stubbornness, and I will make your heavens like iron, and your earth like brass. and in vain shall your strength be exhausted, and your land shall not yield its crops, and the trees of the land shall not yield their fruit. But if you go against me, and will not listen to me, I will add to you the full blows for your sins: I will send against you the beasts of the field, which will deprive you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and diminish you, so that your roads will be laid waste.

If you do not reform yourselves after this, and go against me, then I also will go against you, and smite you to the utmost for your sins, and will bring a vengeful sword against you to avenge the covenant. but if you take refuge in your cities, I will send a plague upon you, and you will be delivered into the hands of the enemy. the bread that sustains man I will destroy from among you; Ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and shall give your bread by weight; you will eat and you will not be full.

But if you do not listen to me after this, and go against me, then I also will go against you in a rage, and will punish you to the fullest for your sins, and you will eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters; I will destroy your high places, and I will break down your pillars, and I will cast your corpses on the ruins of your idols, and my soul will abhor you. I will make your cities desolate, and I will lay waste your sanctuaries, and I will not smell the sweet fragrance of your sacrifices. I will lay waste [your land], so that your enemies who dwell in it will be amazed at it; but I will scatter you among the nations, and draw the sword after you, and your land will be desolate, and your cities destroyed" (Lev. 26:14-33).

Therefore, in fact, jealousy is His attribute. That is, this is not jealousy in the sense of passion, but the fact that He does not want people to leave Him. Therefore, God requires man everything. You become Christians in order to give your whole heart to God: not half, not a quarter, not even ninety percent, but all of yourself. God will not settle for less.

God is the rest and source of all bliss. The words "God" and "rich" are words of the same root, so He is All-Satisfied, that is, He does not need anything. "What does that mean?" God does not need anything from man for His own existence. Some say: but I will do it in spite of God. Do you think He will get worse? No. It's like in the famous joke: I set fire to my own house so that my mother-in-law would have a homeless son-in-law.

Do you think God can be bribed? — No, I don't. "And some foolishly believe that they can give something to God. They come to church, buy thick candles, put them up and think that God will forgive their sins from such a thick candle and they will go do the same. And God will say, "Do not put your trust in the deceitful words, 'Here is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord.'

But if you will completely correct your ways and your deeds, if you will rightly execute judgment between a man and his adversary, if you will not oppress the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed innocent blood in this place, and do not follow in the footsteps of other gods to your own misfortune, then I will leave you to dwell in this place, in this land which I gave to your fathers for generations to come. Behold, you are hoping for deceitful words that will not benefit you. How!

you steal, and kill, and commit adultery, and swear lies, and burn incense to Baal, and follow other gods that you do not know, and then come and stand before me in this house over which my name is called, and say, We are saved, to do all these abominations again. Has not this house, over which My name is called, become a den of thieves in your eyes?" (Jeremiah 7:4-11)
