And we turned, and went into the wilderness to the Red Sea, as the Lord had told me, and walked a long time round about Mount Seir.

And the Lord said to me, saying,

It is enough for you to walk around this mountain, turn to the north;

And thou shalt give a command unto the people, and say, Ye shall pass through the borders of your brethren, the sons of Esau, who dwell in Seir, and they shall fear you; But beware

To make war against them, for I will not give you their land, not one foot of their foot, because I have given Mount Seir to Esau as a possession.

You shall buy food from them with money, and you shall eat. and you shall buy water from them for money and drink;

For the LORD thy God hath blessed thee in every work of thy hands, hath protected thee in thy journey through this great wilderness; Behold, forty years the Lord thy God has been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.

And we passed by our brethren, the sons of Esau, who dwelt in Seir, by the way of the plain, from Elath and Ezion-geber, and turned, and went to the wilderness of Moab.

And the Lord said unto me, Thou shalt not enter into enmity with Moab, nor make war with them; for I will not give you anything of his land for a possession, because I have given Ar for a possession to the sons of Lot.

And there dwelt there before the Emim, a great people, and numerous and lofty, like the sons of Anak,

And they were reckoned among the Rephaim, as the sons of Anak; And the Moabites call them Emim;

And in Seir dwelt formerly the Horites; but the children of Esau drove them out, and destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead, as Israel did with the land of their inheritance which the Lord had given them.

Arise, therefore, and pass through the valley of Zared. And we passed through the valley of Zared.

Thirty-eight years have passed since we went to Kadesh-barnea, and passed through the valley of Zared, and all the generation of those who go to war has passed away from among us, as the Lord [God] swore to them;
