20Do not tell in Gath, do not proclaim in the streets of Ascalon, lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised rejoice.

21The mountains of Gilboa! let neither dew nor rain come upon you, and let there be no fields of fruit upon you, for there the shield of the mighty, the shield of Saul, is broken, though it be anointed with oil.

22Without the blood of the wounded, without the fat of the mighty, Jonathan's bow did not return, and Saul's sword did not return in vain.

23Saul and Jonathan, who were amiable and concordant in their lives, were not separated in their deaths. They were faster than eagles, stronger than lions.

24Daughters of Israel! weep for Saul, who clothed you in a scarlet robe with ornaments, and brought your golden garments to your garments.

25How the mighty have fallen in battle! Jonathan is slain on thy heights.

26I grieve for you, my brother Jonathan; you were very dear to me; Your love was for me higher than the love of a woman.

1Then David asked the Lord, saying, "Shall I go to any of the cities of Judah?" And the Lord said to him, Go. And David said, Where shall I go? And he said, To Hebron.

2And David went thither, and his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelite and Abigail, Nabal's former wife, a Carmelite.

3And David brought the men who were with him, every man with his family, and settled in the city of Hebron.

4Then the men of Judah came and anointed David there as king over the house of Judah. And they reported to David that the men of Jabesh Gilead had buried Saul.

5Then David sent messengers to the people of Jabesh Gilead, saying to them, "Blessed are you with the Lord, because you have shown this mercy to your lord Saul and buried him,
