Interpretation of the Gospel of John

405

Then Jesus cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, "And you know me, and you know whence I come;

406

and I did not come of myself;

407

but true is He who sent Me;

408

Whom you do not know;

409

they know God, but by their deeds they deny it.

410

I know Him, because I am of Him,

411

and He sent Me

412

And they sought to seize him;

413

but no one laid hands on him;

414

for His hour has not yet come.

415

And many of the people believed in Him

416

And they said, When Christ comes, will he do more signs than this one has done?

417

The Pharisees heard such talk about Him among the people,

418

And the Pharisees and the chief priests sent ministers to seize him.

419

And Jesus said to them, "I will be with you a little longer...

420

You will seek Me, and you will not find Me;

421

and where I am, there you cannot come.

422

And the Jews said among themselves, Whither will he go, so that we shall not find him? Does He not want to go into the Hellenic diaspora and teach the Greeks? What is the meaning of these words which He said: "You will seek Me, and you will not find Me; and where I am, there you cannot come"?
