Protestants about Orthodoxy. The Legacy of Christ

Deacon Andrei Kuraev is a professor at the Moscow Theological Academy, a member of the Synodal Theological Commission, a senior researcher at the Department of Religious Studies at Moscow State University, and one of the most active missionaries of the Russian Orthodox Church, that is, he is one of the few who speak about Christ outside of Orthodox churches, but on behalf of the Orthodox Church. Protestants also think of themselves as missionaries. Therefore, this book is a meeting of two different missionary traditions, and Father Andrei himself is one of the most interesting opponents for the Protestants themselves.

In this book, in fact, there is no criticism of Protestantism. There is simply a defense and explanation of Orthodoxy.

The "Protestants" in this book do not mean the heirs of the Reformation, nor the German Lutherans, nor the Calvinists, nor the Anglicans. We are talking about those much later (and, accordingly, very recent) neo-Protestant formations, which, as a rule, arose in America and from there are now aligned with Russia. Accordingly, the word "Protestant" in this book means precisely those people who are most often encountered by a resident of modern Russia under this name: these are Baptists, Adventists, Pentecostals, various charismatic ("neo-Pentecostal") groups, the "Church of Christ", as well as various "just Christians" (in fact, Baptists and charismatics who hide their confessional affiliation in order to make it easier to attract people who sympathize with Orthodoxy).

This book has been reprinted 8 times since 1997 and has been translated into Bulgarian and Serbian.

This reprint is first changed and supplemented by the author. The main thing is that this book changed the attitude to Orthodoxy of many Protestant preachers, some of whom came to the Church not without its influence.

And although the title of the book is addressed to Protestants, the Orthodox reader, having familiarized himself with it, will understand much in his faith. Not everyone needs to discuss with Baptists. But knowing why Christians take communion and why they pray before an icon is useful for any Orthodox.
