The Gospel of John
- 1
E-1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
E-2 It was with God in the beginning.
3 All things were made through Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made.
E-4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not enveloped it.
6 There was a man sent from God; his name was John.
7 He came for a testimony, to bear witness of the Light, that all might believe through him.
E-8 He was not a light, but was *sent* to bear witness to the Light.
E-9 And there was a true Light, which enlighteneth every man that cometh into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world did not know him.
11 He came to his own, and his own received him not.
12 And to those who received him, to those who believe in his name, he gave power to become children of God,
13 Who were not born of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; and we have seen His glory, the glory as the Only Begotten of the Father.
15 John testifies of Him, and crying out, he says, "This was the One of whom I said, that He who came after me stood before me, because he was before me."
16 And of his fullness we have all received, and grace for grace,
17 For the law was given by Moses; but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
18 No one has ever seen God; The Only-begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has revealed.
19 And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, 'Who are you?'
20 He declared, and did not deny it, and declared that I was not the Christ.
21 And they asked him, 'What is it?' Are you Elijah? He said, "No." Prophet? He answered: no.
22 And they said unto him, Who art thou? That we may give an answer to those who sent us: What wilt thou say of thyself?
23 He said, 'I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Straighten the way of the Lord, as Isaiah the prophet said.'
24 And the messengers were of the Pharisees;
25 And they asked him, 'Why then do you baptize, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?'
26 John answered and said to them, "I baptize in water; but there stands among you *Someone* Whom you do not know.
