Gospel story

And when those who were with Judas also came near, the Lord, knowing all that would happen to him, came forth and said to them, Whom are you seeking? And they answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. The Lord Jesus said to them, "This is I." And now Judas, His betrayer, stood with them. And when the Lord said to them, "It is I," they turned back and fell to the ground. And when they had risen, He asked them again, Whom are you seeking? They said, Jesus of Nazareth. The Lord Jesus answered them, "I have already told you that it is I. Therefore, if you seek me, leave these my disciples to depart freely: that the word which he spoke before may be fulfilled: Of those whom you have given me, I have lost none."

Then those who were with Judas came and laid their hands on the Lord Jesus, and held Him.

Those who were with the Lord, seeing what was going on, said to Him, "Lord! shall we not strike with the sword? And behold, one of them, Simon Peter, who had a sword, stretched out his hand, drew his sword, and struck the high priest's servant with it, and cut off his right ear. The slave's name was Malchus.

Then the Lord Jesus said, "Leave it, enough! And touching the ear (of the wounded slave), he healed him. And he commanded Peter, Put thy sword into its sheath, and restore it to its place; for all who take up the sword will perish by the sword. Shall I not drink the cup which the Father has given me? Or do you think that I cannot immediately pray to My Father, and He will give Me more than twelve legions of Angels? How will the Scripture come to pass, that it must be so?

In that hour the Lord Jesus said to the people, and to the chief priests, and the rulers of the temple, and to the elders, who were gathered against him, "As if you had come out against a thief with swords and stakes to take me." Every day I was with you in the temple, I sat with you in the temple, teaching every day; and you did not lift up your hands against me, nor take me. But now is your time and the power of darkness.

And all this was done, that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.

Then the soldiers, and the captain, and the servants of the Jews, took the Lord Jesus, and bound him.

And His disciples, seeing this, all left Him and fled.
