The Gospel of John

24. Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.

25. And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. Then they said to him, "Are you not one of His disciples?" He denied and said, "No."

26. One of the servants of the high priests, a relative of the one whose ear Peter cut off, said, "Did I not see you with him in the garden?"

27. Peter denied again; And immediately a rooster crowed.

28. From Caiaphas they led Jesus to the praetorium. It was morning; And they did not enter the praetorium, so as not to be defiled, but so that they might eat the Passover.

29. Pilate went out to them and said, "What do you accuse this man of?"

30. They answered and said to him, "If he had not been evildoer, we would not have delivered him up to you."

31. Pilate said to them, "Take him, and judge him according to your law." And the Jews said to him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death;

32. that the word of Jesus may be fulfilled, which he spoke, giving us to understand by what death he would die.

33. Then Pilate went back into the praetorium, and called Jesus, and said to him, "Are you the King of the Jews?"

34. Jesus answered him, "Do you say this on your own behalf, or have others told you about me?"

35. Pilate answered, "Am I a Jew?" Thy people and chief priests have delivered thee unto me; what have you done?

36. Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world; if My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight for Me, that I should not be delivered up to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.

37. Pilate said to him, "Are you therefore a King? Jesus answered, "You say that I am the King." For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to bear witness to the truth; whosoever is of the truth heareth my voice.
