Just a few days after this dream, John received a proposal to marry the daughter of the rector of the same cathedral in Kronstadt, the maiden Elizabeth.

The Orthodox Church has an ambiguous attitude to the issue of prophetic dreams.

On the one hand, there are many examples of such dreams sent from above. On the other hand, it often happens that people, carried away by the interpretation of their dreams, begin to see "signs" in literally every dream. And they "fall into delusion," that is, they are seduced by what is not there, they fall into pride: they say, "I am so clairvoyant!"

The Orthodox Church believes that prophetic dreams, as a rule, come to those who are at a very high stage of spiritual development. Or to those who are destined to rise to such a level in life.

The dream in which a student of the Theological Academy, John Sergius, saw himself as a priest of a huge cathedral in Kronstadt, was undoubtedly prophetic. And that was the second sign that he was chosen by God for great things to come.

In November 1993, a boy named Konstantin was hit at school by his classmate. The blow fell on the nerve between the sacrum and the ilium, which led to severe inflammation that threatened paralysis. On the first day, the boy could not eat or walk, he vomited, any movement caused terrible pain. The neurosurgeon who was called to the house advised me to move more (later it turned out that this advice was completely wrong) and to see the doctors a week later.

The parents of the boy who hit Constantine invited a priest from the Church of St. Job the Much-Suffering, Father Nicholas, to the house of the sick man. Constantine's own relatives were then of little faith and non-church people, but nevertheless agreed that Father Nicholas should consecrate their son. After the sacrament of unction, Kostya ate for the first time in two days and even got up, but after a while he had a fever. Then the priest gave his blessing to call an ambulance. The boy was put in intensive care with severe inflammation, which threatened blood poisoning. For a week, he was under an IV, his blood was cleansed twice, he received a blood transfusion, but nothing helped. Finally, they wanted to make a puncture at the site of the contusion. Then Constantine's parents called Father Nicholas in order to take a blessing for a puncture, but he sent them to the elderess Lyubushka in Susanino (near St. Petersburg).

После посещения усыпальницы батюшки Иоанна мальчика перевели из реанимации в отделение, где он находился еще долгое время. Его приходилось учить садиться, ходить. Уповая более на помощь Божию, нежели человеческую, и памятуя слова блаженной Любушки, родители отказались от предложенной врачами операции, но все время мазали мальчика маслицем от батюшки Иоанна, молились за него, пригласили священника, который причастил ребенка в больнице (за что получили выговор от врачей). Через некоторое время первый диагноз «остеомиелит» был снят, и врачи при осмотре обнаружили лишь «последствия после ушиба».

Сейчас Костя живой, подвижный мальчик. Свое письменное свидетельство родители чудесно исцеленного отрока завершают такими проникновенными словами: «Наш мальчик, слава Богу, жив и здоров. Но, самое главное, его страданиями, его болью мы обрели веру в Бога. Мы все стали исцеляться душой – вся наша семья. Теперь у нас есть наш приход, наш духовный наставник. Необыкновенно добрые люди стали окружать нас. Вот так, благодаря батюшке Иоанну, мы исцеляемся».
