Acts of the Holy Apostles

27. Barnabas took him and came to the apostles and told them how he had seen the Lord on the way, and what the Lord had spoken to him, and how he had boldly preached in the name of Jesus in Damascus.

28. And he dwelt with them, going in and out, in Jerusalem, and preached boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus.

29. He also spoke and contended with the Hellenists; and they tried to kill him.

30. When the brethren heard of this, they sent him to Caesarea and escorted him to Tarsus.

31. But the churches throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria were at rest, edified and walking in the fear of the Lord; and, with the consolation of the Holy Spirit, they multiplied.

32. It happened that Peter, going around everyone, came to the saints who lived in Lydda.

33. There he found a man named Aeneas, who had been lying in bed for eight years in paralysis.

34. Peter said to him, "Aeneas! Jesus Christ heals you; Get up from your bed. And he got up at once.

35. And all those who dwelt in Lydda and in Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.

36. There was a certain disciple in Joppa, whose name was Tabitha, which means "chamois"; She was full of good deeds and did many almsgiving.

37. It happened in those days that she fell ill and died. They washed her and laid her in the upper room.

38. And since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him to ask him not to delay in coming to them.

39. Peter got up and went with them; and when he arrived, they led him into the upper room, and all the widows stood before him with tears, showing him the shirts and dresses that Serna had made while living with them.

40. Peter sent everyone out, and kneeling down, he prayed, and turning to the body, he said, "Tabitha! Get up. And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat down.
