New Testament

27As Jesus was leaving, two blind men followed. They cried out: "Have mercy on us, Son of David!"

28As soon as he entered the house, the blind men drew near to him. Jesus asked them, "Do you believe that I can do this?"

"Yes, Lord," they answered.

29Then he touched their eyes and said, "Let it be done to you according to your faith." 30And their eyes were opened; Jesus sternly warned them: "See that no one knows about it." 31And when they went out, they began to speak of him throughout all the land.

And the dumb man began to speak

32No sooner had the two men gone out than they brought to Jesus a dumb man possessed by a demon. 33The demon was cast out, and the dumb man spoke. People were amazed. "Never seen anything like this in Israel!" they said.

34 And the Pharisees said, "By the power of the prince of demons he casteth out demons." [94]

Jesus has compassion for the tormented and helpless

35Thus Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in the synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God, and healing every sickness and every infirmity. 36The sight of the crowds of people aroused deep compassion in Him, because the people, like sheep without a shepherd, were exhausted and exhausted. 37Then Jesus said to his disciples, "The harvest is great and the laborers are few. 38Ask the Lord of the harvest to send more laborers into his harvest."

The Twelve Apostles

10 When Jesus called together his twelve disciples, he gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out and to heal all diseases and all infirmities.

2 These are the names of the twelve apostles:95 the first is Simon, also called Peter, then his brother Andrew; then James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John; 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James, son of Alphaeus, and Thaddeus[96]; 4 Simon the Canaanite,[97] and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Him.

The Commission of the Twelve

5Jesus sent out these twelve apostles, instructing them: "Do not go to the Gentiles, and do not go into any Samaritan city,[98] but go to the lost sheep of the people of Israel. 7Go and proclaim: "The kingdom of heaven is at hand!" 8Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. 9Take with you neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your belts, 10nor a bag for the journey, nor a change of clothes, nor a second pair of shoes, nor a staff, for the laborer is worthy of food.
