These are those who take care of our pious upbringing, that is, teachers and instructors; who protect us from disorder and disorder in society, i.e., civil leaders; those who protect us from offense by the force of the laws, i.e., judges; those to whom the Tsar entrusts the preservation and protection of public safety from enemies, i.e., military commanders.

563. HOW DOES HOLY SCRIPTURE SPEAK ABOUT REVERENCE FOR THOSE IN AUTHORITY?

The Holy Scriptures say about duties in relation to superiors of various kinds:

"Give to everyone what is due: to whom to give, to give; to whom a tribute, a tribute; to whom is fear, fear; to whom honor, honor"

(Romans 13:7).

564. THE HOLY SCRIPTURES SPEAK OF THE SUBJECTION OF MINISTERS AND SLAVES TO MASTERS:

"Servants, obey your masters according to the flesh with fear and trembling, in the simplicity of your heart, as to Christ, not with visible helpfulness only, as men-pleasers, but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart"

(Ephesians 6:5-6).

"Servants, with all fear obey your masters, not only good and meek, but also harsh"

(1 Peter 2:8).

565. WHAT DUTIES ARE PRESCRIBED IN RELATIONS WITH CHILDREN?

The Holy Scriptures prescribe duties to children, in accordance with duties to parents.

"Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the teaching and instruction of the Lord."
