22 And he forsook the Lord God of his fathers, and walked not in the way of the Lord.

23 And the servants of Ammon conspired against him, and slew the king in his house.

24 But the people of the earth slew all that were in the conspiracy against king Ammon; And the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his stead.

25 The rest of the things which he did concerning Ammon are written in the chronicle of the kings of Judah.

26 And they buried him in his sepulchre, in the garden of Uzza. And Josiah his son reigned in his stead.

Chapter 22

1 Josiah was eight years when he reigned, and thirty-one years he reigned in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Jedidah, the daughter of Adaiah, of Bozkathah.

2 And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in all things in the way of David his father, and did not deviate either to the right hand or to the left.

3 In the eighteenth year of king Josiah, the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam the scribe, to the house of the Lord, saying,

4 Go to Hilkiah the high priest, and let him count the money that was brought into the house of the Lord, which they that were on guard at the threshold had gathered from the people;

5 And they shall give it into the hands of the workmen who are assigned to the house of the Lord, and these shall distribute it to them that are at work in the house of the Lord, to repair the injuries of the house,

6 To the carpenters, and to the masons, and to the wall-makers, and to buy wood and hewn stones to repair the house;

7 And thou shalt not demand of them an account in the silver which is delivered into their hands, for they are honest.

8 And Hilkiah the high priest said to Shathan the scribe, 'I have found the book of the law in the house of the Lord.' And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.
