My lord asked his servants, saying, Have you a father or a brother?

And we said to our lord that we have an aged father, and a younger son, the son of old age, whose brother is dead, and he is left alone by his mother, and his father loves him.

And thou hast said unto thy servants, Bring him unto me, that I may see him.

And we said to our lord, 'A lad cannot leave his father, and if he forsake his father, this one shall die.'

But thou hast said unto thy servants, Unless thy younger brother come with thee, ye shall no more appear unto me in thy face.

And when we came to thy servant our father, we told him the words of my lord.

And our father said, 'Go again, and buy us some food.'

We said, We must not go; but if our younger brother be with us, let us go; for we cannot see the face of that man, unless our least brother is with us.

And thy servant our father said unto us, 'Ye know that my wife bore me two sons;

One went away from me, and I said, Surely he is torn to pieces; and I have not seen him until now;

If you take this also from my sight, and misfortune befalls him, you will bring my gray hair with sorrow to the grave.

Now if I come to thy servant our father, and there shall be no servant with us, with whose soul his soul is bound,

And when he saw that the child was gone, he would die; and thy servants shall bring down the gray hair of thy servant our father with sorrow to the grave.

And I, thy servant, undertook to answer for my father for the lad, saying, 'If I do not bring him to thee, I will remain guilty before my father all the days of my life.'
