And God called the firmament heaven. [And God saw that it was good.] And there was evening and there was morning: the second day.

And God said, Let the waters that are under heaven be gathered together in one place, and let the dry land appear. And so it was. [And the waters under the sky gathered together in their places, and the dry land appeared.]

And God called the dry land the earth, and the gathering of the waters he called the seas. And God saw that it was good.

And God said, Let the earth bring forth herbs, grass that sows seed, and a fruitful tree, bearing fruit after its kind, in which its seed is on the earth. And so it was.

And the earth brought forth herbs, grass that sowed seed after its kind, and a tree that bore fruit, in which its seed was after its kind. And God saw that it was good.

And there was evening and there was morning: the third day.

And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of heaven [to give light to the earth, and] to separate the day from the night, and for signs, and times, and days, and years;

And let them be lamps in the firmament of heaven, to shine upon the earth. And so it was.

And God made two great lights: a greater light to rule the day, and a lesser light to rule the night, and the stars;

And God set them in the firmament of heaven, to shine upon the earth,

and to rule the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.

E-19 And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.

And God said, Let the water bring forth creeping things, a living soul; and let the birds fly over the earth in the firmament of heaven. [And so it was.]

And God created great fishes, and every living thing that creepeth that the waters brought forth, after their kind, and every bird of a feather after its kind. And God saw that it was good.
