34 therefore go, [go down,] lead this people whither I have told you; behold, my angel shall go before thee, and in the day of my visitation I will visit them for their sin.

35 And the Lord smote the people because of the calf which Aaron had made.

Chapter 33

1 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, depart from hence, thou and the people whom thou hast brought out of the land of Egypt, into the land of which I swore to Abraham, and to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, To thy seed I will give it;

2 And I will send an angel before thee, and I will drive out the Canaanites, and the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites,

3 [and he will bring you] into a land flowing with milk and honey; for I myself will not go among you, lest I destroy you on the way, for you are a stiff-necked people.

4 And when the people heard this terrible word, they wept, and no one put on his ornaments.

5 For the Lord said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, Ye are a stiff-necked people; if I go among you, I will destroy you in a moment; therefore take off your adornments; I'll see what I can do with you.

6 And the children of Israel took off their ornaments at Mount Horeb.

7 And Moses took and set up for himself a tent outside the camp, far from the camp, and called it the tabernacle of meeting; and every one who sought the Lord came to the tent of meeting, which was outside the camp.

8 And when Moses went out to the tabernacle, all the people arose, and stood every one at the entrance of his tent, and looked after Moses, until he entered into the tabernacle.

9 And when Moses was entering into the tabernacle, then a pillar of cloud came down and stood at the entrance of the tabernacle, and [the Lord] spoke to Moses.

10 And all the people saw a pillar of cloud standing at the entrance of the tabernacle; And all the people arose, and worshipped each one at the entrance of his tent.

11 And the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man spoke to his friend; and he returned to the camp; and his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle.
