Take heed that you do not give your alms before men, that they may see you: otherwise you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

Therefore, when you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that people may glorify them. Verily I say unto you, they have already received their reward.

But with you, when you give alms, let not your left hand know what your right hand does;

That thy alms may be in secret; and thy Father, who seeth in secret, will reward thee openly.

And when thou prayest, do not be like the hypocrites, who love in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, to stop and pray, that they may appear before the people. Verily I say unto you, they have already received their reward.

But thou, when thou prayest, go into thy chamber, and shut thy door, and pray unto thy Father, who is in secret; and thy Father, who seeth in secret, will reward thee openly.

And when ye pray, speak not unnecessarily, as the heathen do, for they think that in their many words they shall be heard.

Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you have need of before you ask him.

Pray thus:

Our Father, who art in heaven! hallowed be thy name;

Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven;

Give us this day our daily bread;

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever. Amen.
