17 And as he was going out on his way, a man ran up, and fell on his knees before him, and asked him, 'Good teacher! What must I do to inherit eternal life?

18 Jesus said to him, 'Why do you call me good?' No one is good but God alone.

19 Thou knowest the commandments, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not offend thy father and mother.

20 And he answered and said unto him, 'Master! all these things I have preserved from my youth.

21 And when Jesus looked upon him, he loved him, and said to him, 'There is one thing that you lack: go, sell all that you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me, taking up the cross.

22 And he, troubled at this word, departed with sorrow, because he had great possessions.

23 And Jesus looked around, and said to his disciples, 'How difficult it is for those who have riches to enter into the kingdom of God!'

24 And the disciples were terrified at his words. But Jesus answered and said to them, "Children! how difficult it is for those who hope for riches to enter the Kingdom of God!

25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

26 And they were exceedingly amazed, and said among themselves, 'Who then can be saved?'

27 And Jesus looked upon them, and said, "With men this is impossible, but not with God, for with God all things are possible."

28 And Peter began to say unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all things, and have followed thee.

29 Jesus answered and said, "Verily I say to you, there is no one to leave house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or land, for my sake and for the sake of the gospel,

30 And now, in this time, in the midst of persecution, he would not have received a hundredfold more houses, and brothers and sisters, and fathers, and mothers, and children, and lands, but in the age to come eternal life.
