But many shall be the first last, and the last first.

And when they were on their way, going up to Jerusalem, Jesus went before them, and they were terrified, and as they followed him, they were afraid. Calling the twelve, He began to speak to them again about what would happen to Him:

Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and deliver him up to the Gentiles,

And they shall mock him, and smite him, and spit on him, and kill him. and on the third day he will rise again.

Then the sons of Zebedee, James and John, came to him, and said, 'Master! we want Thee to do to us what we ask.

He said to them, 'What do you want me to do to you?'

And they said unto him, 'Let us sit with thee, one on thy right hand and the other on thy left, in thy glory.'

But Jesus said to them, 'You do not know what you are asking.' Can you drink the cup that I drink and be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?

And they answered, 'We can.' And Jesus said to them, "The cup which I drink, you shall drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you shall be baptized;

but to let me sit on my right hand and on my left, it does not depend on me, but on whom it is prepared.

And when the ten had heard, they began to be angry with James and John.

And Jesus called them, and said to them, 'You know that those who are esteemed princes of the nations rule over them, and their nobles rule over them.'

But let it not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your servant;

And whosoever will be first among you, let him be the servant of all.
