29 And we stopped in the valley opposite Beth-peor.

Chapter 4

1 Therefore, O Israel, listen to the statutes and laws which I teach you to do, that you may live, and go and inherit the land which the LORD God of your fathers is giving you [for an inheritance];

2 Do not add to what I command you, nor take away from it; keep the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you [today].

3 Your eyes have seen all that the LORD [our God] did to Baal-Peor: every man that followed Baal-Peor, the LORD your God has destroyed from among you;

4 but ye that have cleaved unto the Lord your God are alive all to this day.

5 Behold, I have taught you statutes and laws, as the Lord my God commanded me, that you should do these things in the land into which you are entering, that you might possess it.

6 Therefore keep and do them: for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, who, when they hear of all these statutes, will say, Only this great nation is a wise and prudent people.

7 For is there any great nation to whom their gods are so near, as the Lord our God is to us, when we call upon him?

8 And is there any great nation that has such just ordinances and laws as all this law which I set before you this day?

9 Only take heed and guard carefully your soul, lest you forget the works which your eyes have seen, and that they do not go out of your heart all the days of your life; And thou shalt tell them to thy sons, and to the sons of thy sons;

10 Concerning the day when thou stood before the LORD thy God at Horeb, and when the LORD said unto me, Gather the people unto me, and I will declare unto them my words, by which they shall learn to fear me all the days of their life on earth, and shall teach their sons.

11 And ye drew nigh, and stood under the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire unto the heavens, and there was darkness, and cloud, and gloom.

12 And the Lord spoke to you out of the midst of the fire; the voice of [His] words you have heard, but you have not seen the image, but only the voice;
