And Abraham said to his servant, the elder of his house, who was in charge of all that he had, Put thy hand under my thigh

And swear to me by the Lord, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take to my son [Isaac] a wife from among the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I live,

But thou shalt go into my land, to my homeland, and thou shalt take a wife for my son Isaac.

And the servant said unto him, Perhaps the woman will not go with me into this land, shall I bring thy son back to the land whence thou camest?

Abraham said to him, 'Take heed, do not bring my son back there;

The Lord, the God of heaven, who took me from my father's house and from the land of my birth, who spoke to me, and who swore to me, saying, I will give this land to you and to your descendants, he will send his angel before you, and you will take a wife for my son [Isaac] from thence;

But if a woman will not go with thee, thou shalt be free from this oath of mine. Only do not return my son there.

And the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and swore to him these things.

And the servant took ten camels from his master's camels, and went. In his hands were also all the treasures of his master. And he arose, and went to Mesopotamia, to the city of Nahor;

And he stopped the camels outside the city, by a well of water, in the evening, while the women go out to draw [water],

And he said, 'Lord, God of my lord Abraham! send her this day to meet me, and show mercy to my lord Abraham;

Behold, I am standing by a fountain of water, and the daughters of the inhabitants of the city go out to draw water;

And the damsel to whom I will say, 'Tilt your pitcher, I will drink,' and who will say, 'Drink, and I will give your camels to drink,' this is the one whom you have appointed for your servant Isaac; and by this I know that you are showing mercy to my lord [Abraham].

And before he had ceased to speak, behold, Rebekah came forth, who was born of Bethuel the son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor Abraham's brother, and her pitcher was on her shoulder.
