Text of the Lectionary in the Synodal translation

Brethren, the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death. As the law, weakened by the flesh, was powerless, God sent His Son in the likeness of sinful flesh as a sacrifice for sin, and condemned sin in the flesh, so that the justification of the law might be fulfilled in us, who do not live according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the spirit. The carnal mind is death, and the spiritual mind is life and peace, because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for they do not obey the law of God, nor can they. Therefore those who live according to the flesh cannot please God. But you do not live according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit, if only the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. But if Christ is in you, then the body is dead to sin, but the spirit is alive to righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, then He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies by His Spirit who dwells in you. Therefore, brethren, we are not debtors to the flesh to live according to the flesh; for if you live according to the flesh, you will die, but if you mortify the deeds of the flesh by the Spirit, you will live.

The Epistle to the Romans, conceived 96b

Brethren, since the law, weakened by the flesh, was powerless, God sent His Son in the likeness of sinful flesh as a sacrifice for sin, and condemned sin in the flesh, so that the justification of the law might be fulfilled in us, who live not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

December 28, To the Holy Martyrs of Nicomedia

Epistle to the Romans, conceived 96th century

Brethren who live according to the flesh cannot please God. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God.

Romans 8:8–14

January 4, St. 70 To the Apostles

The Epistle to the Romans, conceived 97

Brethren, all who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God. For you have not received the spirit of bondage to live again in fear, but have received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father!" And if we are children, then we are heirs, heirs of God, and co-heirs with Christ, if only we suffer with Him, so that we may be glorified with Him. For I think that the present temporal sufferings are worth nothing in comparison with the glory that will be revealed in us. For the creation awaits with hope the revelation of the sons of God, because the creation has submitted to vanity not voluntarily, but by the will of Him who subjected it, in the hope that the creation itself will be freed from slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God.
