16You shall honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that your days may be long and that it may be well for you in the land that the LORD your God is giving you. [1204]

17Thou shalt not kill.

18Thou shalt not commit adultery[1205].

19Thou shalt not steal.

20Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor. [1206]

21You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor shall you covet your neighbor's house, nor his field, nor his manservant, nor his servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that your neighbor has." [1207]

22The LORD has said this to all the multitude of your people gathered around the mountain. He spoke with a trembling voice, sounding out of fire, cloud, and darkness. He added nothing more to these words. And then He wrote it down on two tablets of stone and gave them to me.

23 Then, when you heard that voice out of the dark cloud, and saw the mountain blazing with fire, you came to me, all the leaders of your tribes and your elders, 24and said, 'The Lord our God has truly shown us his glory and majesty. We ourselves heard His voice out of the fire! Now we have learned that when God speaks to people, they can still live. 25And yet, why should we be exposed to such mortal danger in this place, since this great fire can burn us? If we hear the voice of the Lord our God again, we will surely die. 26Who among mortals, having heard, like us, the voice of the living God out of the fire, ever lived? 27Go to the LORD our God yourself, listen to all that he says, and whatever he says, tell us. We will listen and perform."

28The Lord heard these words of yours and said to me, "I know what these men have told you, and they have spoken faithfully. 29Oh, if their thoughts were always directed to reverence Me and to keep all My commandments, they and their children would live in prosperity forever! 30Go and tell them to go to their tents. 31 But thou shalt remain here with me, and I will declare unto thee the commandments,1208 and the statutes, and the rules which the covenant has decreed, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess."

32 Посему держитесь твердо того, что Господь, ваш Бог, вам повелел, не уклоняйтесь от сего ни вправо, ни влево. 33 Прямо идите по тому пути, что Господь, ваш Бог, заповедал вам, если хотите сохранить свою жизнь, пребывать в благополучии и долго жить в той стране, которой вам предстоит овладеть.

Великая заповедь

6 И вот Наказ[1209] – установления и правила, Заветом определенные, которым научить вас повелел мне Господь, Бог ваш, чтобы вы жили по ним в той стране, овладеть которой идете. 2 И это для того, чтобы во все дни жизни своей все вы – ты, твои дети и твои внуки – глубоко чтили Господа, Бога своего, соблюдая все Его установления и заповеди, которые я завещаю тебе, и могли наслаждаться долгою жизнью. 3 Если прислушаешься, Израиль, и приложишь всё старание, чтобы исполнять тебе завещанное, будешь преуспевать, и потомство твое будет многочисленным, как обещал Господь, Бог отцов твоих, когда говорил, что даст тебе землю, молоко и мед источающую.

4 Слушай, Израиль: Господь – наш Бог, Господь – един! 5Люби Господа, Бога своего, всем сердцем своим, всей душой своей и всеми силами своими. 6Помни слова, которые я заповедую тебе ныне, – близко к сердцу прими их, 7непрестанно напоминай их детям своим, говори о них дома и вне дома[1210], и ложась, и вставая. 8Повяжи их себе на руку как знак памятный и на челе[1211] носи как повязку; 9напиши их и на дверных косяках твоего дома, и на вратах городских.

10Приведет тебя Господь, твой Бог, в ту землю, о которой клятвенно заверял Он праотцев твоих Авраама, Исаака и Иакова, что даст ее тебе, – землю, в которой большие и красивые города, не тобой построенные; 11дома, полные всяческого добра, которое не ты собирал; и в скалах колодцы, не тобой высеченные; рощи масличные и виноградники, которые не ты сажал. Тогда, насытившись всем, чего бы ты только ни пожелал, 12берегись, чтобы не забыл ты Господа, Который вывел тебя из Египта, где был ты рабом[1212]. 13Глубоко чти[1213] Господа, Бога твоего. Служи и поклоняйся только Ему одному, и Его именем клянись.
