The Psalter of the Prophet David (in Russian translation by P. Yungerov)

Glory: As I stand before the Judge, take care of my soul, and think of the hour of the dreadful day, for the judgment is unmerciful to those who have not done mercy. Cry out to Christ God: O Knower of the Heart, O Knower of the Heart, Thou shalt not even condemn me first, have mercy on me. And now: Thy dreadful and terrible, and unwashed judgment, O Christ, in my mind I receive day and hour, trembling, like a villain, having these fierce deeds and deeds, which alone I have done diligently. With the same fear I fall down before Thee, crying out painfully: By the prayers of Thou Who didst give birth to Thee, O Most Merciful, save me.

Lord, have mercy (40) and the prayer:

O Holy Lord, Who is alive in the highest, and with Thy all-seeing eye Look upon all creation. To Thee we bow down our souls and bodies, and to Thee we pray, O Holy of Holies: stretch out Thy invisible hand from Thy holy tabernacle, and bless us all: and if we have sinned against Thee willingly and unwillingly, forgive God, as the Good and Lover of mankind, grant us Thy good peace. For Thine is Thine, O our God, and to Thee we send up glory, to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages, Amen.

Fourth kathisma for ten

101. The prayer of the poor when he is discouraged and pours out his supplication before the Lord.

God! Hear my prayer, and let my cry come to Thee. Turn not Thy face away from me: when I am grieved, incline Thy ear to me; when I call upon Thee, hear me quickly. For my days have vanished like smoke, and my bones have dried up like dry wood. I am cut like grass, and my heart is parched, so that I have forgotten to eat my bread. With my loud groan, my flesh cleaved to my bones. I became like a desert bird, like a night raven in the ruins of a house. I did not sleep and was like a lonely bird on the roof. My enemies reproached me every day, and those who praised me swore by me. For I have eaten ashes as bread, and my drink I have dissolved with tears, because of thy wrath and thy wrath: for thou hast lifted me up, and hast cast me down. My days have departed like a shadow, and I am dried up like hay. But thou, O Lord, abide for ever, and the remembrance of thee endureth to generations and generations. Thou art rising, and shalt be merciful to Zion, for the time is ripe for her, for the time has come. For Thy servants have loved his stones, and have pity for his dust. And the nations shall fear the name of the Lord, and all the kings of the earth of thy glory. For the Lord builds Zion, and will appear in his glory. He looked upon the prayer of the humble and did not reject their prayers. Let it be written of this generation to come, and the people to come shall praise the Lord. For the Lord hath come down from His holy height, the Lord hath looked down from heaven upon the earth, To hear the groans of the prisoners, To loose the sons of the slain, That they may proclaim in Zion the name of the Lord, and His praise in Jerusalem, when nations and kings shall be gathered together to serve the Lord. He said to Him, when he was in his (full) strength, "Tell me the shortening of my days. Thou shalt not steal me in half my days." In the generation of Thy years: In the beginning, O Lord, Thou didst found the earth, and the works of Thy hands the heavens. They shall perish, but Thou remainest, and all shall be worn out like garments, and Thou shalt weave them together like garments, and they shall be changed, but Thou art the same, and Thy years shall not fail. The sons of thy servants shall dwell, and their descendants shall be reformed for ever.

102. Psalm of David.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all my inward beings, His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His rewards, Who cleanses all thy iniquities, Who healeth all thy infirmities, Who delivereth thy life from corruption, Who crowneth thee with mercy and mercies, Who fulfilleth thy good desires, that thy youth shall be renewed like that of an eagle. The Lord is the One who gives alms and fate to all those who are offended. He showed His ways to Moses, and His desires to the children of Israel. The Lord is generous and merciful, long-suffering and abundant in mercy. He will not be angry to the end, nor will he be indignant forever. It is not according to our iniquities that He has done to us, nor according to our sins has He repaid us. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, the Lord has established His mercy upon them that fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, He has removed our iniquities from us. As a father is generous to his sons, so the Lord has given generosity to those who fear Him. For He knows our education: He remembers that we are dust. Man is like grass, his days are like a wild flower, so he will fade. As soon as the spirit has passed through him, he will no longer be, and he will no longer know his place. And the mercy of the Lord is upon them that fear him from everlasting to everlasting, and his righteousness is upon the sons of sons, who keep his covenant, and remember his commandments, to do them. The Lord has prepared His throne in heaven, and His kingdom is the ruler of all. Bless the Lord, all His angels, mighty in might, doing His word, hearing the voice of His words. Bless the Lord, all His powers, His servants who do His will. Bless the Lord, all His works, in every place of His dominion. Bless the Lord, O my soul!

103. David's Psalm on the Existence of the World.

Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God! Thou art wonderfully great, Thou hast clothed Thou with confession and splendour. Thou clothe Thyself with light as a garment, Thou stretchest out the heavens as a tent of leather, Thou coverest Thy heights with waters, Thou makest the clouds Thy chariot, Thou walkest on the wings of the wind. Thou makest Thy angels spirits, and Thy servants a flame of fire. He founded the earth in its firmament: it shall not bow down for ever and ever. The abyss, like a garment, is its covering. The waters shall be upon the mountains: They shall flee from Thy rebuke, and they shall fear the sound of Thy thunder. The mountains are rising, and the plains are falling down to the place which Thou hast appointed for them: Thou hast set a boundary, which they shall not pass over, neither shall they return to cover the earth. Thou directest springs into the valleys: the waters flow among the mountains, Watering all the beasts of the field; wild asses (of them) quench their thirst. The birds of the air dwell with them, and from the middle of the cliffs they make a voice. Thou shalt water the mountains from Thy heights: the earth is satisfied with the fruits of Thy works. You bring forth grass for cattle and grain for the service of men, to bring (to them) food from the earth. And wine rejoices a man's heart, so that his face may shine (as it were) with oil. Bread strengthens a person's heart. The trees of the field shall be satisfied, the cedars of Lebanon, which Thou hast planted, The birds shall make nests there: the stork's dwelling governs them. High mountains for deer, a rocky rock is a refuge for hares. He created the moon for (indicating) the times, the sun knew its west. You stretch out the darkness, and night comes, when all the beasts of the forest walk, Young lions, roaring for prey, to beg God for food. The sun rose, and they gathered together and lay down in their lairs. A man (then) goes out to his work and to his work until evening. How majestic are Thy works, O Lord! Thou hast created all things in wisdom. The earth is full of Thy creation. This sea is great and vast: there are creeping things, of which there are no number, small animals with great ones. There are ships sailing there, this serpent that You created to humiliate him. Everyone expects food from Thee, that Thou mayest give them at the right time: When Thou givest unto them, they shall receive, and when Thou hast opened Thy hand, all shall be satisfied with good. But when Thou hast turned away Thy face, they shall be troubled, Thou shalt take away their spirit, and shall perish, and return to their own land. Thou shalt send forth thy Spirit, and they shall be created, and thou shalt renew the face of the earth. Glory to the Lord forever! The Lord will rejoice in His works: He will look at the earth, and make it tremble, He will touch the mountains, and they will smoke. I will sing to the Lord in my life, I will sing to my God as long as I exist. May my conversation be sweet to Him, and I will rejoice in the Lord. May the sinners disappear from the earth and the wicked – so that they may not exist! Bless the Lord, O my soul!

Glory:

104. Alleluia.

Confess to the Lord, and call upon His name, declare His works among the nations. Sing to Him, and sing to Him, tell Him of all His wonders. Boast in His holy name, that the hearts of those who seek the Lord may rejoice. Seek the Lord and be strong, seek His face always. Remember His signs which He has done, His wonders, and the utterances of His mouth. The seed of Abraham are his servants, the sons of Jacob are his chosen ones. He is the Lord our God, and His judgments are in all the earth. He remembers his covenant forever, the word which he commanded a thousand generations, which he commanded to Abraham, and his oath to Isaac, and set it up for a commandment to Jacob, and for Israel for an everlasting covenant, saying, "Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the inheritance of your inheritance," When they were few in number, very insignificant, and strangers therein, and passed from nation to nation, and from kingdom to nation. He did not allow anyone to offend them, and punished the kings for them (saying: "Do not touch My anointed and My prophets, do not evil." And He called a famine upon the earth: He destroyed every stalk of corn. He sent a man before them: Joseph was sold as a slave. They bound his feet with fetters: his soul went through iron, until his word came to pass: the word of the Lord set him on fire. The king sent for him, and loosed him, the ruler of the nations, and set him free. He made him lord over his house, and ruler over all his dominion, that he might instruct his nobles as himself, and teach his elders wisdom. And Israel came into Egypt, and Jacob went to the land of Ham. And he multiplied his people exceedingly, and made them stronger than their enemies. And he stirred up in their hearts hatred against his people, and deceit against his servants. He sent Moses, his servant, Aaron, whom he had chosen for himself. He put into them the words of His signs and His wonders in the land of Ham. He sent darkness and brought darkness, for they resisted His words. He turned their waters into blood, and killed their fishes. Their land boiled with frogs (even) in the treasuries of their kings. He said, and there appeared dogs, flies, and gnats in all their borders. Instead of rain, he sent them hail (and) fire, which burns their land. And he smote their vineyards and their fig trees, and broke every tree within them. He said, and locusts and caterpillars without number appeared, and they ate all the grass in their land, and ate all the fruit in their land. And He smote every firstborn in their land, the firstfruits of all that was gained by their labour. And he brought them out with silver and gold, and there was no sick man in their knees. Egypt rejoiced at their departure, for fear of them fell upon her. He spread out a cloud for their covering, and fire to shine for them at night. They asked, and quails flew in, and he fed them with the bread of heaven. He tore the stone apart, and the waters flowed, rivers flowed in waterless places. For he remembered his holy word, which he said to Abraham his servant. And He brought forth His people with joy, and His elect with gladness. And he gave them the provinces of the Gentiles, and they inherited from the labor of the nations, that they might keep his statutes and keep his law.
