19. Moses Looks at the Promised Land (Numbers 27:12-23)

12 And the LORD said to Moses, 'Go up to this mountain of Avarim, and look at the land which I am giving to the children of Israel;

13 And when thou lookest upon it, thou shalt also be gathered unto thy people, as Aaron thy brother did;

14 For ye have not obeyed my command in the wilderness of Sin, in the time of the strife of the congregation, that ye might shew my holiness before their eyes by the waters of Meribah.

15 And Moses said to the Lord, saying,

16 May the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set man over this company,

17 who would go out before them, and who would go in before them, who would bring them out, and who would bring them in, that the congregation of the Lord might not be left like sheep that have no shepherd.

18 And the Lord said to Moses, 'Take for you Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom there is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him,

19 And thou shalt set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation, and give him instruction in their eyes,

20 And give him of thy glory, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may hear him;

21 And he shall speak to Eleazar the priest, and inquire of him concerning the decision, by means of the Urim before the Lord; and according to his word they must go out, and according to his word he and all the children of Israel with him and all the congregation must go in.

22 And Moses did as the Lord had commanded him, and took Jesus, and set him before Eleazar a priest, and before all the congregation.

23 And he laid his hands on him, and gave him instruction, as the Lord had spoken through Moses.
