DISCOURSE 44. The exhortation is to receive the divine teaching with full attention. DISCOURSE 47. The divine command to sacrifice Isaac and the invincible firmness of Abraham's faith and obedience to the divine will. The educational significance of this sacrifice. DISCOURSE 49. Isaac's example of patience and perseverance in prayer. The reasons why the wives of the righteous were barren. Isaac's twenty-year prayer for Rebecca's barrenness and the urge to imitate the righteous man.

DISCOURSE 50. The piety and prudence of Rebecca, who asked the Lord (through the priest) when bearing fruit. Different occupations and tempers of the born twins. Esau's inattention to the gift of his birthright, and the suggestion to his hearers not to lose the great for the small and insignificant.

БЕСЕДА 51. Право первородства и значение имен, даваемых в древности родителями своим детям. Божественное повеление Исааку не ходить в Египет во время начавшегося голода и подтверждение ему прежде данных обетований. Опасность, угрожавшая Исааку в земле Герарской, и избавление от нея божественным промышлением, подобно трем отрокам в разженной печи.

БЕСЕДА 52. Богатство Исаака и зависть к нему Герарян. Истинная кротость Исаака и его благочестие. Богоявление Исааку у кладязя клятвенного и благодарственные жертвы Господу. Союз Авимелеха с Исааком, как доказательство того, что нет ничего сильнее кротости и добродетели. Увещание любить любящих и ненавидящих.

БЕСЕДА 53. Женитьба Исава на Хананеянках. Сила добродетели и вышняя помощь в получении благословения отца Иаковом. Благословение Исаву и сильный его гнев на Иакова.

БЕСЕДА 54. Увещание к подвигам добродетели указанием на то, что дано Богом человеку и что обещано. Зависть Исава к Иакову и совет последнему матери, согласны с заповедью Христа апостолам. Напутствие Исаака Иакову. Путешествие Иакова в Месопотамию и видение таинственной лествицы с обетованиями в будущем и настоящем. Увещание слушателей — просить прежде всего у Господа не земных, а вечных благ.

БЕСЕДА 55. Благочестие и вера Иакова в божественные обетования. Все благоуспешно бывает у того, кому помогает вышняя десница. Убеждение слушателей любить Господа: достоподражаемый пример любви апост. Павла ко Христу. Любовь к ближнему и милостыня; великая сила последней для настоящей и будущей жизни.
